I want to thank Chris Peak for his partnership over the last twenty years. Chris and I have worked closely throughout both of our tenures at Rivals, and I count him as a valued friend and colleague. I wish him all the best in his future endeavors!

I will let the next folks who will lead the coverage here introduce themselves in due time, but I want to spend this time thanking Chris and answering a few questions I expect you will have.

While the name of the site will change tomorrow, what will not change is the commitment at Rivals to bring you great coverage of Pitt athletics. There will be some changes in the next few days, but many things will remain the same. This community remains the same. Your post counts remain the same. Your subscription, user names, the layout of the site and this message board - they all stay the same. The URL you see right now at the top of the page will not change and will bring you right back here tomorrow.

As we mark the 5 Year Anniversary of basically when shutdowns began (sports getting canceled), I wanted to put this graph out because if you remember back then, many of you were saying Covid wasn't killing anyone. It was just the flu and people were dying at normal rates but there was a conspiracy to put Covid on the death certificates for hospital reimbursements. Back then, you said the only way to tell if it was a real thing would be based on death rates because you can write whatever you want on a death certificate but you cannot lie about whether or not someone actually dies. Well, here they are:


Historical jump in deaths from 2019 to 2021. Another big jump in 2021. A drop in 2022 but still probably slightly higher than a non-Covid 2019/20/21/22 normal trend. Drop in 2023 so we are back on what would have been a normal, slightly gradual rise from 2019 to 20 to 21 to 22 to 23 if there was never Covid.

But I swear that most of you will either believe these death numbers are wrong or say Covid still didn't cause any deaths and this jump in deaths was caused by something else. Or, or, just hear me out. Covid actually did kill a ton of people (yes, mostly old people) in 20 and 21. You can criticize the shutdowns all you want, that's a whole different debate. I am simply saying Covid was real and killed a lot of people. Would anyone admit that?

Holy crap, is it any wonder the Dems lost?

They won't stand and applaud for a single thing. Not even the 27-year steel worker, father of 7 and foster parent of 40.

Trump is making them look silly.

I have no words, this gets harder and harder to watch.

Man, wait until you see what happened to the frat knuckleheads this afternoon. Back porch roof collapsed with kids on top of it and a lot under it.

Someone is getting sued over this.

Was considered to be the front-runner at Iowa, his home state but is no longer a candidate. It's believed that is due to being the #1 candidate for the Indiana job.

Either way, WVU is going to get a great coach. There is an inordinate amount of "guarantee" coaches out there.
