Sugar Bowl

Currently in New Orleans for the Sugar Bowl. We have been here since Sunday. My wife and I travel to various bowls for mini vacations because we enjoy college football and it is a distraction from Pitt heartache.

I have never been around anything like what we are experiencing right now. Our hotel is close to Bourbon Street and we were on Bourbon until shortly after midnight last night. Right now Police, ATF, FBI, Department of homeland security and every media outlet is here. Last night was People of all ages and various backgrounds just having a good time. Lots of Georgia, ND, leftover Raider fans buying drinks for each other and busting chops. Waking up this morning to see what took place was sobering. Wtf is wrong with people.

We were scheduled to leave Thursday morning after the game. We couldn’t get any flights out Friday once they postponed. We got flights for Saturday and have extended our stay so we can still attend the game. Sorry for the length but just wanted to share a little.

OT: Black Doves, On Netflix

New limited series (6 episodes) British spy-crime series on Netflix starring Keira Knightly (“Bend It Like Beckham” among others).

I watched all six episodes in between football over the last week and found it excellent. It’s the first new series I have really enjoyed in a while and gave me a break from watching “Justified” and “Longmire” reruns.

I just started watching “Day of the Jackal” last night. It’s an updated version of the Ken Follett thriller about an attempt to assassinate Charles De Gaulle, set in modern times. This time the show leads off with the assassination attempt on a modern European leader. Eddie Redmayne, an excellent young British actor, stars.

Anyone else with recommendations for good watching on the tube, please post them. I am in the midst of 3.5 months in Atlanta undergoing cancer treatment at Emory Cancer Institute, which presently appears to indicate that I will leave here cancer free at the end of January 2025, so I have plenty of time for viewing.

Minutes Discussion

I'm really confused by Capel's rotation choices. Playing the same 5 18 minutes in the second half is what sunk us. Corhen is not a 38 minutes a game player and I don't think G was poor enough at the 5 to warrant sitting him almost the whole second half. I really think the fatigue led to the defense lapses we saw at the end. Frustrating.

When is time to be concerned about the portal and the lack of movement to Pitt?

I was curious, and I looked at last year, and we got some after this point transfers (most notably Eli, and Chief Borders), but most of the incoming transfers had already been committed at this point last year. I also have concern that after the bowl game on the 26th with the portal still being open, we may see a new influx of guys from our roster enter the portal since it will still be open at that point.

I think the Kicker is a good get seemingly, and Spann seems like a big receiver without much production at all, but we will see obviously, not going to shoot anyone down without seeing them on the field first, but still no offensive lineman, no Safety which I feel is needed as well, and maybe a DE.
