Ok, enough about the dangerous floor conditions; and it was dangerous, just ask Robinson.
Pitt players wanted to play, that was obvious. The conditions affected play, but some observations
can be made. First of all Pitt has depth, more than I've seen in other years.
Young looked very good, missed a few bunnies but he was able to score against an enormous
front line. Artis missed a lot of the half due to fouls, but IMO his game is there. He and Young as we all know
are our two best. Robinson is Robinson, and he played through a pretty serious fall and facial cut. His
offense looked a little more aggressive. Jeter disappointed me, he just has a way of disappearing (nothing
new there).
The others looked good, Luther can be a few minutes a half sub in the middle. Ano (or whatever his name is)
looked ok early, but sat for most of the half. Maia is terribly out of shape, slow, and was a liability. Gonzaga
made its move when he was on the floor. He's been injured, so hopefully he'll come around.
Jones looked like Jones, hit a few jumpers and was assertive. Last year we really needed him to perform.
This year we have other options, so if he plays within himself we should be ok.
Smith, the amount that I saw looks like an upgrade at guard, and Milligan seems to be an upgrade and
should be able to sub for Robinson better than what we had, better yet, didn't have last year.
Johnson impressed me. He appears bigger body wise and stronger. He's a definite three point threat
and has some floor game.
We were up two at the half, and other than the beef Gonzaga had inside, plus their All American....
I thought we were somewhat better due to our depth. We have a lot of work to do. We were
out of sync somewhat, but with all the new faces it will take some time to come around. I like what I
saw tonight given all the circumstances. Potential is there. Jamie' challenge is make all these
pieces fit.
