Nebraska took the match in 4 sets. Point production was close....Nebraska 17 points/set.....Minnesota 15 points/set. Minnesota gave back way too many points....29 attack errors (21 by Nebraska) and 12 service errors (5 by Nebraska). Minnesota only hit .130....but Nebraska wasn't much better at .199. Nebraska's block stood out.....12 to Minnesota's 7. This match could have been won by Minnesota without their terrible error rate.

I replied to this earlier. Not sure where it went. I kind of think the 12 service errors by Minnesota is what killed them but it's interesting that there were so many hitting errors.

Lost in the stat sheet was the fact that Minnesota's opposite had a pretty good game compared to many of the other players on either team. Will be interesting to keep an eye on how opposites do against Nebraska down the stretch. Starting to think that might be their weakness. B1G isn't exactly stacked with good opposites.

I watched the whole match and became excited when Minnesota tied it at 1 set each. I agree about the service errors. I seem to recall towards the end of set 3 when it was 'nip and tuck'.....Minnesota had something like 2 or 3 service errors which gave the set to Nebraska....emphasis on gave. In a championship game....my head would explode if Babcock went off on them!

Sometimes the best teams make the fewest errors in those situations. Coaches always talk about how it's a game of errors. Probably not as much as it was back in the "side out" days but you see mistakes become the difference in a game like this.

This is definitely true. And while I did not watch this game, I will also add that Nebraska's back row defense is elite, probably the best in the country. I am sure that forces teams to press, which of course leads to errors.

Watched the match as well, and this is definitely the most vulnerable I’ve seen Nebraska look this year (though i didn’t watch their SMU loss to be fair). Nebraska’s back row is elite, easily the best in the country, and their middles are fantastic as well both offensively and defensively. But they do have some weaknesses to exploit.

Reilly’s sets to the pins are predictable, and their pins are good hitters but not great. Nebraska’s best offense comes from the middles, Harper from the back row and Reilly attacking. If Pitt can keep them out of system with aggressive serving without a ton of errors like Minnesota had last night, we can hang. Landfair hits long all the time on our of system balls, and Beason has been off the second half of the year. We will need to pass well though because their block will kill us out of system too. It will come down to serve receive - if we can serve them tough and pass well, we can win
