A question for those that know way more than I do about basketball as I’m sure coach Capel does. Why don’t college teams take advantage on a 2:1 shot ratio as often as they do in the NBA? Pitt got possession with 50 seconds left in the game after UNC took a 1 point lead. That seemed like is a perfect setup for a 2:1 in Pitt’s favor. Instead they consumed almost the entire 30 seconds of the shot clock and forced a bad shot. In the end they got their second chance by sheer luck with the missed UNC free throws. I suppose it didn’t matter either way given how Pitt’s offense looked in that last minute but it seems they forfeited a sure advantage they had.

poor coaching and similar low player IQ is the answer for Pitt

I couldn’t believe they didn’t go for the quicker shot too. I guess the thought is you make the shot you give UNC only 15 seconds to try and win game. If you miss you foul right away and at worse only down three with a chance to tie at the buzzer.

All the years I’ve been watching college ball it confounds me how bad teams are at getting a get shot off at the end of a half or game .

Agree that most teams don’t take advantage of that. Huge mistake by Lowe once he ended up with a freak rebound to not settle down and get a better last shot. He rushed that like he thought there was no time left or that his first shot didn’t reset the shot clock. Also the timeout by Capel when Ish had the ball in open court with 17 seconds left was dumb. They could have gotten a shot off there and still had time to rebound a miss and your best player already had the ball in the open court. Calling a TO was a gift for UNC.
