The Olympic Channel is channel 822.

And while not technically a new network, Root Sports, which was owned by DirecTV has been rebranded as AT&T SportsNet with AT&T's acquisition of DirecTV.

I always hated the name "Root Sports." For years, I had no idea why it was called "Root" until I realized its meant as "root for your team" which is really cheezy.

I am sure AT&T SportsNet will inherit the Fox Sports South ACC syndicated package that Root bought. It will be interesting to see if there are any other changes. If I were the Penguins and Pirates though, I'd cut out the middle man and team up on a cable channel and split the profits 50/50.

The Olympic Channel is a good idea because they pretty much show World Championship type events from Olympic Sports so while talk shows and game replays are on the other 10 sports channels, this is a nice network to put on from time to time.

Nothing against you, but we need another sports channel as much as Penn State needs another Paterno. The various ESPN channels can't fill the time slots with quality sports programming as it is now.

The market has reached the saturation point: do we really need more poker games and hotdog eating contests on sports television?

At least when Root would run WVU games and repeats of their propaganda coaches shows incessantly (among their other incessant Pens and Pirates "human interest" shows) ... we could term it the "Root of all Evil," LOL.

ESPN was airing women's Cornhole today. F'n women's Cornhole is what they need to fill airtime...

Cornhole is for kids. Washers is so much more fun and challenging. My 8 year old can throw a beanbag.

KBL, Prime Sports, Fox Sports Pittsburgh, FSN, Root Sports, now AT&T SportsNet
I remember KBL when they used to cover pitt hoops games in those Paul Evans days in the holiday hoops tournament.

I'd be like 8, sneaking downstairs to watch pitt play those Christmas time games at midnight. Seeing a red faced, sun burnt Paul Evans wearing a floral shirt and white slacks was sexy for an 8 year old boy.

Did that last line come off as creepy for you guys as it did for me?

Staying up way past my bedtime as a kid watching that Pitt @ Hawaii game that they somehow lost as my dad was snoring was something I'll always remember. I kept falling asleep and waking up, I think I woke up towards the end to see the loss happen live.

Crazily enough, almost 30 years later, with dozens more sports channels and hundreds more cable channels, I had to resort to listening the next Hawaii loss on a radio as I fell asleep early in the 2nd Half, woke up at 3AM, went to espn.com to see that they lost.

I did the same thing, but my dad wasn't in the basement. I had some friends come over and some of them fell asleep during the game. So funny we are still talking about it

Uuuuhhh, even more so.

There may be more than one cable provider than yours. Of course, yours is the bestest, cheapest, most problem free of all.

Your 8 year old can't throw a washer? Is he ok?
Anyone including a baby con throw a washer, not accurately enough to play to game hence the reason kids play corn hole.

It's the same game but just keeps getting easier from generation to generation. First it was horse shoes, then it was watered down to washers now it's watered down to beanbags. A slight variation was thrown in with can jam but again, it's all the same, just keeps getting more simplified and easier.

So you're 8 year old is ok then, right?

Do you think this will give us any BETTER PITT coverage on the former root? They have us VIRTUALLY none!

I didn't say that. Root just had the Pitt press conference and game replays and I'd expect that to continue.

I suspect Pitt will continue to hoard their content and push it to their own distribution channels including the ACC network. It wasn't entirely ROOT's fault they stopped showing Pitt. Pitt priced themselves too high for ROOT (regardless of who was closer to being right) at the same time WVU was willing to do anything to get on the air.

As long as WVU has literally no other option, and Pitt does, I don't see the status quo changing.
