The Olympic Channel is channel 822.
And while not technically a new network, Root Sports, which was owned by DirecTV has been rebranded as AT&T SportsNet with AT&T's acquisition of DirecTV.
I always hated the name "Root Sports." For years, I had no idea why it was called "Root" until I realized its meant as "root for your team" which is really cheezy.
I am sure AT&T SportsNet will inherit the Fox Sports South ACC syndicated package that Root bought. It will be interesting to see if there are any other changes. If I were the Penguins and Pirates though, I'd cut out the middle man and team up on a cable channel and split the profits 50/50.
The Olympic Channel is a good idea because they pretty much show World Championship type events from Olympic Sports so while talk shows and game replays are on the other 10 sports channels, this is a nice network to put on from time to time.
