UMBC is already showing signs of this! LOL. Read an article about last year's big 16 seed upset over #1 Virginia in The Baltimore Sun.

They asked players if they feel like they "gave hope" to other 16 seed in the future. They said basically, "No, I hope it never happens again and we are always the only ones".

I don't blame them, it's a claim to fame, I can see them being talked about every year forever until it happens again, maybe they'll all be 50 years old, meeting somewhere every year to drink a toast that nobody has done it again yet, like the old Dolphins do, LOL.

FWIW, they were mis-seeded. I had them as a 15 and I know more than the committee. And as the #1 overall seed, UVa should have drew a play-in game winner as they should have had the worst 16 seed. Enormous difference between an America East team who won a ton of games and some MEAC/SWAC/NEC school

Either way, the ACC Champ vs. a 10 loss AE team that was actually a pretty heavy underdog to Vermont, at worse its a 1.5 vs. 15.5 seed, still a major over the top upset. Myself, I did enjoy it a lot, I watched the America East Championship and UMBC's two games in the NCAAs as like I said, they are kind of my local school, right in my neighborhood.

I remember my daughter had swimming lessons there about 10 years ago when she was 6-7 years old, a couple times we left the swimming pool and walked into the old gym and watched them playing Boston U. or Albany with about 100 fans there, nobody at the door, no tickets to buy. a local liquor store had free tickets you could take at the checkout, later...just amazing they where the team that eventually did that?

It will for sure happen again... how soon though? Hard to say. I would bet within the next 10 years, I'm kind of surprised it took that long to happen.

Yea, obviously once a generation upset but they weren't a true 16 seed. The committee doesnt put much effort into seeding those bottom teams correctly. I remember I had ETSU as a 14 and saying on this board how they were not a typical 16 seed and will give us a game. I was pretty upset we weren't given a typical 16 seed. And look, we almost lost.

There may be a slight difference between the two accomplishments.

There is, but the similarity is in the uniqueness of both of them, at the moment only one team has won a Super Bowl undefeated and only one #16 seed has beaten a #1. Honestly both of these marks are equally well known among sports fans.

On the other hand, Virginia were even more grossly mis-seeded from the perspective that they didn't have De'Andre Hunter. Not even close to a 1 seed, let alone the #1 overall seed, without him.

Speaking of mis-seeding. This Bradley team won the MVC, maybe the best mid-major league. They are NOT a 15 seed and neither was that MTSU team who also won good mid-major league. I had MTSU as a 13. I didnt do seedings this year but I know enough about bball to know that the MVC shouldn't get a 15

Bradley stinks. So did the MVC this year.
