The NBA kicks off tonight so I thought it would be fun to get some predictions down and to create a season-long thread. Mostly I just want to see how wrong @Sean Miller Fan is again this year.

Predictions:

Zion will play less than half the season. His knees will cut his career short.

Denver will get the one seed in the West. They have the best home court advantage and the most continuity.

The Lakers will be the better team in LA. I don’t trust PG’s health.

Final four: Lakers, GSW, Philly, Milwaukee. LA and GSW both have “F-You” season potential.

Finals: LA and Philly.

Champs: I think LeBron has one last run in him. And he hasn’t had this much time off since he joined the NBA.

That being said - if Simmons learns to shoot... I’m changing this pick in a heartbeat.

Thoughts on Celtics with Kemba?

Lakers and Bucks

I think you're right about Zion and his knees. This regular season had more intrigue though. Everyone knew Golden State would make the Finals last year.

Also agree about Zion. Just think his game relies too much on physicality and explosiveness and his body/frame won’t be able to sustain that for 82 games.

Lets go Cavs!!! :p

I’ll go with the clippers to win it all since I got them at 16-1 odds to win it all before they got Kawhi and PG13.

As a closet Sixers fan (since the Doc J days) and a fan of old school in general I would be generally pleased with that final.

And I agree about Zion, which is a shame, but you know those 30 game High School and 40 game college seasons, now will be replaced by an every other nite grind of 80 games plus playoffs. That takes a toll and if the body has a weakness, it will breakdown with that type of grind.

Thoughts on Celtics with Kemba?

Kemba is a poor man's Kyrie, more or less. Unreal handles, less size, older. Kemba is also not as efficient. He's never played in a system where he wasn't literally the only option on offense. He'll replace 80% of Kyrie's production though.

The bigger issue for the Celtics is losing Al Horford. He was an Embiid-killer and is one of the better passing big-men in the NBA. Incredibly smart defensively...just did a lot of things that Enes Kanter won't be able to do. I don't see how Boston is better this year basically swapping Horford and Kyrie for Enes Kanter and Kemba Walker.

The East is just a two-team race, at least until Durant returns in 2020.

I'm honestly not even that sold on the Bucks. I think losing Brogdan is going to hurt them a lot. I think the east comes down to what happens first/more successfully: Simmons learning to shoot or Giannis improving his shooting and decision making.

I'm sold enough because there's no one else in the East.

The Tier-2 playoff teams - Celtics and Pacers - won't crack 50 wins.

The Tier-3 playoff teams - Nets, Heat, and Pistons are all like 42 win teams.

Hornets, Cavs, Knicks, and Hawks might combine for 100 wins.

I like the Sixers because their defense is going to be unstoppable. They're going to frustrate the hell out of teams.

warriors arent a top 4 team, with Thompson out for the year that means Curry is going to be double teamed and Green cant seem to score anymore,i think the Kings take a big step this year

Just saw that Klay is out all year. I don’t feel good about that GSW pick.

Zion is not fat. He could tone up a little bit, but he is simply a freak of nature. You are loco for suggesting lipo.
Im saying that hes got a little fat he could shed. I actually think he will be fine. Strength is generally a good thing. One knee issue is no reason to freak, but he has 10-15 lbs of fat he could lose lol. Lipo isnt a big deal chill

Sixers over Clippers, but as someone else stated, I have the suspicion the Mavs are going to be very good.

I'm also a Sixers fan. However I grew up in the dark ages of the early to mid 90s where our best players were Clarence Weatherspoon and Dana Barros.

Chicago Bulls will be a surprisingly strong team.
coby white will be in the conversation for rookie of the year. last years top pick Wendell Carter Jr. is going to be very good.
Zach LaVine is looking like a second team all NBA player and free agent signings Tomas Santoransky, Thaddeus Young and Luke Kornet are going to be strong adds.
not to mention Otto Porter Jr. and Lauri Markkenan.

There are a legit, what 8 - maybe 9 teams that can win it all this year. That's freaking crazy...and should make for a great season. I hope everyone stays healthy so we can watch it all unfold how it should

Yea, the redistribution of talent will make it a lot more interesting. If you like the NBA, it should be a great season. I know people like myself don't really like it but its amazingly popular and no matter what they do, it keeps getting more popular. Doesnt matter if you have a couple superteams dominating as has been in the past or now with a large number of contendors, people cant get enough of it.

Looks like people in China may not be getting any of it, though.

Yep - it's more for the people like me...I don't have a "favorite" team, so I enjoy the balance because I'm not invested in just one team making it. Lots of really good talent spread now throughout the teams. The "super team" or the "Patriots" aren't out there this year

Week one reaction: my predictions may be worse than SMF’s NBA predictions.

Man GSW looks awful.

Halfway through an entertaining NBA seaosn and whooo boy. I was right on some stuff and I was wrong on some stuff. Let's pull a @Sean Miller Fan and check my predictions.

1: I was right about Zion and feel more confident than ever that he will ultimately end up in the same category as Bowie and Oden. I'll even say I'm already confident Morant will be a better player long term.

2: I still have a shot here, as Denver is only 4.5 back. I didn't expect the Lakers to be this good, but if Davis misses prolonged time I could see Denver making a move.

3: I still think when push comes to shove the Lakers > Clippers.

4: Oh boy. You can't predict injuries but the whole F-You season for GSW was way off.

5: Man I thought Philly would be better. As long as they have a PG who is afraid to take a 3, Milwaukee will steamroll them.

Ja Morant is amazing.

De'Aaron Fox is amazing. He was my guy in 2017 when the Sixers traded up to get Fultz. They'd be so much better off with Fox as their PG and Simmons off the ball. Their roster is just so screwed up. Made too many moves that didn't make sense and now they have extreme weaknesses in team shooting and backup PG.

Not sure why people are all over Fultz now. He is the same guy he was in Philly: long, below the rim, still can't shoot, making $10m per year...he's basically the upgraded version of TJ McConnell. I'd still call him a bust consider his pre-draft comps were like James Harden lol.

I was really wrong about Trae Young. Thought he was a gimmick but he's legit. I still would rather have Doncic but that trade wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be.
