PITTSBURGH—Pitt’s 12-game football schedule for 2019 was unveiled today by the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Panthers’ slate is comprised of an impressive 11 teams that qualified for the postseason in 2018.

Pitt will host seven games at Heinz Field, including four ACC contests. The home season highlights:

·The Panthers open the 2019 season on Aug. 31 against Coastal Division foe Virginia. The Cavaliers went 8-5 last season, routing South Carolina, 28-0, in the Belk Bowl.

·Pitt hosts three non-conference opponents in September, including UCF on Sept. 21. Winners of 25 of their past 26 games, the Knights are coming off a 12-1 campaign, ranking as high as No. 11 in the final polls.

·Other September non-conference contests includeOhio (Sept. 7), a perennial contender in the Mid-American Conference, and Delaware (Sept. 28), which advanced to the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoffs in 2018.

·In a game that could have majorCoastal Division title implications, Miami visits the Panthers on Oct. 26. It will be the Hurricanes’ first trip to Heinz Field since being upset by Pitt, 24-14, in the 2017 regular-season finale.

·Thursday night college football returns to Heinz when Pitt hosts North Carolina on Nov. 14. The last eight games in this series have been decided by an average margin of 3.9 points.

·The Panthers close the regular season with a home date on Nov. 30 against Boston College of the Atlantic Division. It will be the first meeting since a 30-20 Pitt win on Chestnut Hill during the 2014 season.

Pitt plays its road opener at Penn State on Sept. 14. It is the last regularly scheduled game between the historic rivals.

The Panthers travel to Duke for their first ACC road game on Oct. 5. The Blue Devils capped an 8-5 season with a 56-27 win over Temple in the Independence Bowl.

An annual encounter since 1955, Pitt faces Syracuse on a Friday night in the Carrier Dome on Oct. 18. The Orange went 10-3 last season, earning a No. 15 ranking.

Pitt plays at Georgia Tech on Nov. 2. In six ACC meetings between the Panthers and Yellow Jackets, each team has won three times.

Pitt’s final regular-season road game will be at Virginia Techon Nov. 23. The Hokies played in the 2018 Military Bowl, marking 26 consecutive years they have reached the postseason.

Aug. 31 Virginia*

Pitt is 5-0 all-time against the Cavaliers in Pittsburgh.


Sept. 7 Ohio

Coach Frank Solich has led the Bobcats to 10 bowl games in 14 seasons.


Sept. 14 at Penn State

The 2019 meeting between Pitt and Penn State will mark the 100thall-time.


Sept. 21 UCF

The Knights’ 25-game winning streak was snapped by LSU, 40-32, in the Fiesta Bowl.


Sept. 28 Delaware

In the lone prior meeting, James Conner scored four TDs in a 62-0 win to open the 2014 season.


Oct. 5 at Duke*

Kenny Pickett’s 25-yard pass to Maurice Ffrench with :05 left lifted Pitt past Duke last season.


Oct. 18 (Fri.) at Syracuse*

The Panthers have won 14 of the past 17 games against the Orange.


Oct. 26 Miami*

Pitt toppled No. 2 Miami, 24-14, the last time the Hurricanes visited Heinz Field in 2017.


Nov. 2 at Georgia Tech*

The Panthers travel to Atlanta to face new-look Georgia Tech under coach Geoff Collins.


Nov. 14 (Thurs.) North Carolina*

The last time Mack Brown faced Pitt? The 1984 season as Oklahoma’s offensive coordinator.


Nov. 23 at Virginia Tech*

The Panthers piled up a school-record 654 yards in last season’s 52-22 win over the Hokies.


Nov. 30 Boston College*

Pitt has won five of the last six against the Eagles, who visit Heinz for the first time since 2004.
