Some familiar faces to the Pitt men’s basketball recruiting scene have cut extensive recruiting lists down to a handful of finalists this past week.

Pitt has been all over four-star guard Derek Dixon since October 2022, when he took an unofficial visit to Pittsburgh and the Panthers extended an offer. The competition has gotten increasingly stiff with Arizona and North Carolina among the latest to involve themselves. The Panthers, Wildcats and Tar Heels joined Virginia, Syracuse and Vanderbilt in Dixon’s top six.

Amari Evans, another consensus four-star guard the Pitt coaching staff has been tracking for years now, included the Panthers in a top-10 list that also featured Mississippi State, Georgetown, TCU, Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Villanova, Tennessee, Illinois and Xavier. Evans is originally from Pittsburgh but will play his final high school season with the elite semi-professional development program Overtime Elite.

After the Panthers extended an offer just days ago, Omari Witherspoon — a three-star guard per 247Sports from Washington, D.C. — has them in his top 10, alongside Butler, Clemson, George Mason, Maryland, Oklahoma State, Vanderbilt, Virginia Tech, West Virginia and Xavier.

Isaiah Dennis, a four-star prospect per 247Sports, added Pitt to his top 10 alongside Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State, Miami, Mississippi State, Wake Forest, Tennessee, Cincinnati and Michigan. He’ll begin taking official visits at the end of the month and Pitt is first up — Dennis' trip to the Steel City is slated for the weekend of Aug. 30.

Imposing shooting guard C.J. Ingram, who stands a towering 6-foot-6 and is ranked among 247Sports and ESPN’s top 100 prospects in the Class of 2025, was the latest to put Pitt in a top 10 that also featured Kansas, Michigan, Texas A&M, Florida, Florida, Oklahoma, Georgia, Vanderbilt, Georgetown and Mississippi State.

The Panthers don’t have a 2025 player committed yet, but that could change soon as they chip away on a host of highly regarded rising senior prospects.
