I like the Rivals site, but I think the recruiting page on 247 is much better. Not sure which one is more accurate, but they're both relatively the same.
Our class ranked dropped to 50th - 11th in ACC.
In the ACC, we're ahead of 3 teams:
BC
GT
VT - the only reason they're last is because everyone is bailing because Buzz left
A few days ago we were ranked close to 30th overall and 7th in the ACC. For some reason they adjusted Justin Champagnie from a 4star to a 3star.
Needless to say, recruiting has been a bit underwhelming so far. I'm happy with the 2018 class and so far, the 2019 class. I think Capel has done fine so far, but I'm thinking my own expectations were set too high. I wasn't expecting a top 10 class off the bat.. but I was hoping we'd push for a top 5 ACC class. I think he eventually will, but when?
Everyone always brings up why we DON'T recruit well:
0-19
Location
Culture Stallings created
Football School, not Basketball
Hardly anyoe brings up why we CAN recruit well.. especially now:
Jeff Capel
Rebrand - if you don't think the new colors are awesome then you're being a hater
X Johnson and T Mcgowens - who wouldn't want to play with these two??
Immediate playing time in the ACC + a chance to win. Face the facts, this team isn't far off from winning.
Khadim Sy going to Ole Miss or LSU over Pitt would be a huge loss. As a big man, playing with two great guards that create and will get you open looks all game seems like the best opportunity out there. Especially in the best conference playing for a young and upcoming team that just rebranded their entire athletic department. Then add in a coach who knows how to get kids to the NBA.. a coach with a great vision and great history.
I will never understand why most kids don't want to come here.. I understood it when Stallings was here. Times have changed. Things have gotten much better. As fans, we should be gracious for the classes and teams Capel puts together, but we should also be hopeful this isn't the ceiling.
