We are up one place and four points in the coaches poll. We are up two places and four points in the AP. Apparently bitch slapping Davidson didn't impress anyone, even the coaches who voted for Davidson last week.

I don't think many of these guys who vote in these polls pay much attention to what is going on.

While I don't think Pitt is a top 10 team I also doubt you can find 31 teams better than Pitt.

Just some perspective

Arkansas Little Rock has more votes than Pitt

Dayton lost at home to Chatanooga

Utah lost to Miami by 24, and lost to Wichita State by 17. They did beat an incredibly overrated Duke team without Amile Jefferson

SMU is banned from the Ncaa Tournament

UCLA has 4 losses already, including losses to Monmouth (ok team) and Wake Forest

Vanderbilt just lost to Dayton, at home

Oh well, I like being underrated.

RPI #7
Pomeroy #21

Three top 100 wins and loss to RPI # 24.

I think we look and feel like a 4 or 5 seed at this point in the season.

Pitt's strength of schedule moved up to 11th in the entire country.

Duquense moved to 115 in the RPI, Morehead state to 101. We are close to having 5 RPI Top 100 wins.

Not surprised. No one wants to hear it but that's the effect of a lack of a buzz factor that's plagued the program for the last 3 -4 years. While some will say, it's not important, I say that from a marketing and recruiting perspective it's always important. Well, we shouldn't lack for motivation, because we are being slighted. The. burden will always be on Pitt to prove "they belong." Hell, with our schedule we may have to go thru the ND game undefeated before we get ranked.

Apparently the analysts at ESPN got very drunk at their Christmas party this weekend. 5-5 Wichita State is 25th in their power rankings.

Could care less. I hate college hoops polls. This team's "ranking" is 6......which is their RPI and the only thing that matters.

You don't get on espn's bar scroll based on rpi and there are more people following that than rpi. Yea, yea the tournie committee... That will take care of itself.

Human polls are all biased by pre-conceived and pre-season expectations and don't reflect reality.

Pitt is #18 per Sagarin's computer--a much better measure than these human perception polls now that we are ~1/3 of the way into the season.

We will still need to do well in ACC. Detroit, Kent, Morehead and Duquesne all likely to be over 100 by the end of the year once they get into conference play.

Human polls are worthless evaluators of anything. Unfortunately sportscasters are just as worthless, so they blindly play up the human polls. That's the sad part.

ESPN still has a bar scroll? Who knew??? I stopped looking at that when I bought a desktop computer. Then I bought a laptop. Then I bought a smartphone. Then I bought an IPad. I think Larry Johnson was at UNLV and Beverly Hills 90210 was popular the last time a scroll was relevant. Remember when we used to get our scores at :19 and :49 past the hour on Headline News...or check a newspaper on Tuesdays to see the polls?

Bottom of their tv screen, genius/gizmo King. And it's there all the time ...makes you look pretty dumb. Only teams who are ranked get their scores regularly shown on tv. Go back to writing your code. You are so tech savvie, my my... I've never seen anything like it.

Here's the straight-line response: "I'll take 70 inches over 7 inches any day."

I am aware that it's there all the time. I said in my post that I stopped looking at it. I didn't say it's no longer there. You need to improve your reading comprehension. But then again, you spend half your time reading a scroll on ESPN. It's probably affecting your brain somehow.

I am far from a tech guy--that's why you are so funny. I am the guy who has to go to my younger co-workers about tech stuff. I am just a typical guy--one who hasn't looked at a scroll in 20 years.

If you depend on a scroll for anything, I am not sure why youre calling me dumb.

Well , if you know it's there, and you knew anything about marketing/ promotion then you would have recognized that the value of isn't reporting the score, the value is having your team's name continuously rolling on the tv. tjat was my point.

The best marketing and promotion is seeing their name on a bracket line come March. What's on the ESPN scroll means nothing in that regards. The RPI does.

The committee even acknowledged that they looked at other things like Pomeroy/Sagarin. I do not recall them saying they looked at the AP top 25. In fact, I know they do not. Heck, if it were important, D1 coaches wouldn't have secretaries filling out their brackets.

Of course having your team name being seen by millions matters.

It's called TOMA, top of mind awareness.

Considering it cost about 40k for a 30 second spot, you can literally quantify how much free publicity you get from the crawl.

And it isn't really the time on the scroll bar that matters. ESPN shows highlights of top 25 games. They almost never show highlights of games that don't have a top 25 team playing in it. Yesterday might have been a little different because until the first batch of NFL games was over there wasn't much for them to show on their news shows, but under normal circumstances Pitt beating Davidson wouldn't have even garnered a mention on any of the ESPN new shows, even though it was broadcast on an ESPN channel.
