Syracuse Game in the Dome & Other Dribbles ...

The only thing Corhen does better defensively is fill out his uniform, and that has tricked a bunch of you (and Jeff Capel, which is deeply concerning) into thinking he’s a stronger and better defender.

He has no defensive instincts, no strong base, no rebounding skills, and can’t navigate screens at all. Oh and he doesn’t block shots.

So .. yeah.

I dont think the staff agrees with you because they wouldn’t give up rebounding AND defense just for the few extra buckets Corhen gets per game. And the GDG/Austin/Dunn 3/4/5 combo is probably equal to the Corhen/GDG/Austin combo offensively. They also always have Corhen guarding the 5 and GDG guarding the 4. If they felt GDG was the better post defender, he'd guarding the 5 and Corhen would guarding the 4.

I know the staff doesn’t agree with me, but the stats and the numbers speak for themselves and are pretty inarguable at this point. Cam guards the 5 because it’s the best in a suite of bad options. They trust Guillermo to defend more because he is a better defender, so he takes the better player between the 4 and the 5. Even still, Guillermo struggles to defend on the perimeter because he is a center and most centers struggle to defend on the perimeter, even very good defensive centers like Guillermo.

Also, they put Guillermo and Corhen out there together because Guillermo at the 4 can help to cover up for Cam’s bad defense at the 5. When Guillermo is at the 4, he essentially defends two positions worth of responsibility.

Corhen is out there for easy buckets on offense. That is the only role that the numbers suggest that he is actually above average at.

This isnt true. Cam guarded Scheffelin and GDG guarded the Soviet. When both are in at the same time, Cam guards the better post player. You can say, well, they like GDG's perimeter D more but Scheffelin is one of the better bigs in the nation and the Soviet is as average a P5 player as there is and they wanted Cam, not GDG in Scheffelin. They believe Cam is the better defender.

Yes, and Pitt was en route to getting run out of the gym by Clemson until they benched Corhen and made their run in the second half with Guillermo in the game at the 5.

A reporter asked Capel about Corhen's good offensive output in the 1st Half and Capel did say something like "yea, but we were losing." Having said that, it wasn't Scheffelin in the 1st Half. We outrebounded them in the 1st Half and Shaq Scheffelin didn't do much. We just refused to guard shooters as we normally do.

We have now trailed by 9+ points in the first half of all 8 ACC games, mainly due to 3 point defense. Incredibly, we are 4-4.
