3 ‘Ships Left - What Needs Addressed?

I don't even know if I remember who is on our roster anymore.

PG - Cummings
Combo Guard/Small Forward - Nike, Burton, Santos
Small Forward/Undersized 4 - Jeffres
4/5: Hugley, Jorge, Guillermo, the two other transfers

So it looks like a point guard is an absolute necessity, then you'd probably want at least one wing who is in the 6'6" - 6'7" range and has some speed and athleticism. Then you need a shooter (who may or may not also check one of the first two boxes).

So we are in consensus that a Good Outside Shooter and PG are a must. The 3rd need is debatable. Any idea of potential guys that fill this bill?

I think you’re looking at a roster breakdown like this right now:

ballhandler - Cummings
off-ball guard - Burton, Sibande
wing - Jeffress, Santos, Hinson
forward - Diaz twins
post - Hugley, Fede

So for the last three spots, you’re looking for (1) someone who can handle the ball - Burton *can*, but ideally you need another one; (2) another forward - if you think the Diaz twins are capable of or better off playing alongside Hugley, I’d prefer they look for another rotation post (Poteat?) to give a little flexibility with Fede, or a guy that’s more suited to Gueye’s skillset if you think at least one of the Diaz twins can give you good minutes in the post; and (3) a guy who can be an off-ball guard or a wing for you but who can threaten from the perimeter.

I didn't realize Hinson was only 6'7". I was worried we might not have anyone athletic enough to guard an offensively-skilled opposing wing who has decent size, but perhaps it will be him. I thought I read someone suggest he might even see minutes at the five.

He's a big (weight wise) wing. From what I watched of his tape, athletic isn't the word I'd use. I'm probably forgetting someone, but I can't recall Pitt having a player of his size that would be considered a wing. I don't mean this to put him down, just that he's different than what
we've had. Is there such a thing as a power wing?

At least 2 shooters, 1 true point guard, and maybe a transfer 4 or 5

What a problem to have , too many bigs !

Need shooters and Nellie , Nike and Burton to practice so much from 3 that they get blisters !

Its @gary2 time. Show us our possibilities for a point guard and legitimate shooter! ;)
Not much info on guards. Saw Cassius McNeilly and Donald Carey linked. Milan Brown following Frankie Collins and Rondel Walker on Twitter. Probably someone or other not yet public.

McNeilly has not played anywhere for awhile now. Except stint in JuniorCollege.

We desperately need a couple of guards with eligibility beyond next year. Our entire backcourt - Cummings, Burton and Sibande - are all gone after 22/23. We literally have zilch at PG and SG for 23/24.

McNeilly isnt in play. Look for Louisville or Colorado State.

PG and shooters. Need multiple threats from the outside to help give John room to operate.

Good Outside Shooter
Veteran Big Man that can play 4/5. Even if it is just in a backup role.
PG that can give you some minutes behind Cummings
We now have a bunch of bigs. We may even add another, but…

Is Capel capable of fielding a big starting lineup?

Definitely a good shooter (or 2). I don’t really care if we leave a ship or two open.

We have 13 ships and every year you are going to have injuries and/or possible defections during the season. I could see maybe saving 1 in case a good player becomes available mid year, but you are just asking for problems going into the season with only 10 or 11 guys on ‘ship.

Yeah, even if you get into the summer and find yourself reaching for a high-character kid from a mid-major who won’t expect a big role, that’s still better than leaving the spot open. With the portal there’s no excuse for leaving a spot open.
