Nobody does noon like Pitt.

3:30 is good for Pitt/PSU. A night game gave too much time for the Pennsyltuckians to drink and attend Alt-Right rallies.

I hate the Nitters because they're Nitters. Most Nitter fans or fans in their media area are hard working conservative republicans so I like them alot more as people than I like any of you PITT liberal snowflakes!
I know this because this is where we live!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd watch your Pennsyltuckians statement since there's actually more of us Pennsyltuckians than you liberal left snowflakes. Did you hear about the last presidential election or are you late catching up on the news???

There are alot of real Americans between DC, Manhattan, and Hollywood!

My parents are from Altoona and Huntington,I grew up outside of Harrisburg-3 HS classmates have Pitt NC rings, PSU fan, moved to the Western Philly burbs in 1977. PA is a great State. I cringe at that term and will always say how great the whole State is.

Why do PSU fans hang on our site? Isn't there interesting discussions on their board? Just seems crazy to me.

Noon on ABC/ESPN2 is a prime spot. Much different than playing the Raycom game.

I like noon games, and typically don't have to shuttle kids to activities any longer, so you won't see me complain. But I can see how it's a challenge for others with younger kids.

For those I've heard in the past
who whine about not being able to rake their leaves or such... c'mon.

This. Plus we are on the east coast and not a marquee program like Clemson or FSU. Noon/1:00 would be a very logical time IMO.

Oh well.

Pitt-Penn State football will be nationally televised
Three other game times on Pitt’s 12-game schedule were also announced, including a noon start for the Sept. 16 home game against Oklahoma State. That game will be televised on either ABC or ESPN2.

The nooner for OKST is hugely disappointing. For the first time in what seems like a decade, the Pirates didn't choose our kick time. We have a Top 10 opponent coming in and we still get the typical noom time slot. This had the 3:30 ABC/ESPN2 mirror written all over it. For me, it really sucks because I might not be able to go due to youth sports. And that's a big reason why noon games suck, some parents (like me) prefer to attend or coach their kids' games rather than the Pitt game and Pitt simply doesn't have enough fans to backfill for the people not showing up due to youth sports or bad weather.

People would find a way to make it to a noon game if it were in a 50,000 seat on campus stadium.

I've officially joined the "parent with youth league games in fall" group. Never thought I'd be one of you but I am here.

So that is basically eliminating me from attending noon games, which pitt seems to cherish more than any school on this planet. With that said, I always hated them. You get a much livelier crowd later in the day, more people go to. 3:30 or 6pm kickoff is soo much better.

More time to tailgate, a little shade from that wretched sun, more people in stands, just don't see the downside.

I have always hated noon games. I personally would love all Pitt and Steelers games to be at 4 pm. so much better.

And enjoy the kids games while you can. My daughter is half way through high school, and I know that it won't be much longer before I won't be going to her soccer games anymore-max 2 more years. Personally, I'm going to miss it when that time comes.

what's funny, and im probably contradicting myself here, I like 1pm games for steelers. I like to get it going early and be done at 4pm so I have some weekend left.. weird, the older I get, the less I like the nfl and more I like college football, cant explain why. I was opposite when I was younger.

so for the reason I want the steelers at 1pm, I hate it when pitt fans feel the same way with pitt and noon. I go to pitt games (or try to anyways) where as steelers, im just watching and have very little desire to go to a game.

regarding youth games, my little 5 and 8 year old did spring soccer this year and it was such a joy to watch them. in fear of sounding like a cheesy parent, I do love these kids sports.

We play each other and you talk about Penn State a lot here.. I think that's why.. honestly was never over here before our series started. I'll probably check out the Virginia Tech and Auburn boards when we get closer to playing them.

On topic, I was hoping for a night game. Hopefully, we get one before our series is over, either at Heinz or the Beav or both, preferably. 330 isn't bad though. Hope Pitt fans travel and come enjoy the day. I think there will be plenty of PSU fans that have invited their friends that are Pitt fans so it may be a similar environment as last year but obviously more slanted towards PSU. I'll have my Pitt friends there. If the score turns out how I hope it will be, they'll all be getting specially made keychains for Christmas.. as my buddy says win or lose.. it's always a good tailgate.

Louisville/Clemson is scheduled for 3:30 that day. That will be the ACCs game for that timeslot.

Heisman winner vs defending National Champs.

the Beav? "gee Wally dad's gonna slug ya when he gets home." This inevitably will lead to June stating..."Gee Ward you were kind of rough on the beaver last night"

TV is driving the ship.

Let's try again people.

PITT DOES NOT DETERMINE KICKOFF TIMES FOR POWER 5 OPPONENTS. They might get to pick YSU or a game vs. a MAC school but not for games that ESPN is going to air. Period.

Therefore Pitt has no "affinity" for noon starts, the network determines when based on numerous factors.

I wondered how that wasn't the 8PM ABC game then I look and see Miami/FSU is. WFT??!! The ACC scheduled 2 of its top 3 games on the same weekend in the 3rd week of the season? How is that possible? Major fail by the ACC. That bumps Lou/Clem to 3:30 and Pitt/OKST to noon.

Looks like they are doing a noon mirror with UCLA @ Memphis being the other game so Pitt/OKST will be on ABC in most markets and ESPN2 in the west and areas around Memphis.

The ACC also has ND that week with the Irish visiting BC so if you include that as one of the top ACC-contracted games because its ND, they have 4 of maybe the top 10 ACC-contracted games all the 3rd week of the season.

you have waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much time on your hands. Pitt will play Saturday games between noon and 8. So what? I will watch unless I have to go to some alt-right rally (whatever the hell that is).

amazing how TV always has us playing at noon games at home and later on away games. TV has it out for pitt obviously. TV, the rooneys, the pirates, the world is against us..

Even when the Pirates didn't pick our kick time and we had a big-time opponent come in, we get noon (OKST this year, ND 2 years ago).

I believe every single P5 OOC game (besides a couple ND games) Heinz history has been at noon. Maybe I am missing one.

Iowa twice
Mich St
Nebraska
Texas A&M
Utah
VT when we weren't in ACC yet
Penn State
ND twice

Well, if you count UVa as a P5 team, I guess we did open on a Saturday night against them but that was before Week 1 was loaded with "Week 1 bowl games."

yep, its either a hell of a coincidence or we push for this time slot. you cant tell me we are this "unlucky" for this long..

I go to one Steelers game per year, 2 at most, it's like a streak, a tradition, a group that meets, this will be 25 straight years, I like to pair them up with Pitt, I don't want rain or really cold weather, and I don't want night games. But I'd prefer a little later like 3-4 pm if I can get it.

The years like 5-8 year old are really fun, because they get to do everything. I remember watching my daughter be the worst goal keeper ever, then score 6 goals in one game! It's all fun later too, if they keep going, but by the time they reach high school, it's more serious and they're all specialized. Like my daughter is nothing but defense. It was fun when she scored on a 30 yard free kick in a JV game this year, she hadn't scored in 3 years. Remember, Pitt will always be there, your kids playing won't last forever... unless of course they become great and go pro! I won't have that problem I don't think, but it's been fun to watch her develop and get this far.

uh no, that's the point. pitt will play Saturday games between noon and 8 on the road but at Heinz, they will play Saturday games between noon and 1:30pm.

give us a later kickoff once in awhile here, in September and October. I don't think it's asking too much. you guys seem to make it out to be a coin toss by the networks here. god forbid if we get that coin to show tails every once inawhile.. our luck, we'll get a later kickoff like the last home game of the season or the thanksgiving weekend.

It's because Pitt is not good, IMO if we had a few 10-2 seasons and where considered real contenders, we'd get better time slots. We get noon because they want us out of the way for the teams that bring ratings.

im not sold on that.. Pitt does very well in ratings. I understand not bumping tosu from the 8pm ABC slot here but you cant tell me a 3:30pm game on espnU is above us.

I don't know then, but we get noon most of the time?

Do you live in a place where you'd hear the score of the Pitt game without trying?

Reason I ask is that for years, they'd have these noon TV games, and my daughter would always be playing soccer at that time, from 2009-2013/14 at least, 5/6 seasons!

But I live in Baltimore, I could wear a Pitt jersey and nobody would mention the game. Anyways, all those seasons, I'd DVR the games, go to my daughter's soccer games, tell my Pitt peeps, don't tell me or text me or call me about Pitt, and I watched all those games on DVR, usually around 6 PM as if they where just starting. Never missed one.

I've been doing this for steeler games, DVR'ing it so I can forward the commercials and the 20 instant replays that have become a mandatory part of every nfl game.. love it.. DVR it, start watching around 2:30pm(ish), get done in about an hour.. no commercials, no replays, no halftime, it's beautiful..

i'll have to do this with pitt home games, the ones that are on tv anyways, and not the ones on espn9.com that we seem to get one or two of every year. maybe some day in the distant future, we'll be lucky enough to get a 3:30pm or (gasp), evening home game where parents like me can do the dad thing AND go to a game.. who knows, anything is possible.

Its a factor of

1. OOC games being in September when the Pirates choose our kick times

2. Pitt not being "3:30 worthy"

3. Bad luck
