One of the greatest (if not the greatest) sports moment I ever witnessed. For us it kind of unfolded in slow motion - you're watching the backboard turn white and we turned and looked at each other like - WTF? - and then kaboom! it shattered to the ground. There was this groundswell of noise as everyone realized what they were witnessing. Still gives me goosebumps when I think of it.send it in Jerome.
Lost the Saturday before to Oklahoma on CBS then a quick turnaround facing Providence. Rome had two quick turnovers after play resumed and Evans was going beserk. John Feinstein was in the house that night writing his book, A Season Inside.
That was a fantastic game against Oklahoma. I remember we never sat the entire game and it was HOT in the upper level.Lost the Saturday before to Oklahoma on CBS then a quick turnaround facing Providence. Feinstein loves Evans for some odd reason. He is likely is a big fan of Evans because Paul coached at Navy and Feinstein loves the Naval Academy.Great book. Re-read about five years ago. Funny how much it emphasized Evans as "the up and coming coach, disrupting the old coach power structure.
they even put in John Rasp who was punter on the football team
Of course Rasp was a good enough basketball player that he was all state, so it's not like he was some bum off the street.
send it in Jerome.
What a great night, i was a student at the time and never missed any games.
Also, I used to play alot of pick-up hoops games at trees hall back in the day. I played against Rasp on more than one occasion, he was a pretty talented kid.
Remember like it was yesterday.. 12 mile training run, soaked in the tub, Nico's recovery room for a gyro and some irons, smuggled in some bears and send it Jerome.. still have a piece of the glass..
I've got glass too! Grabbed a handful on the way out.
I think you are thinking about the 1989 game v Oklahoma. The 1988 game was a road game in which they lost. They beat OU at home in 1989.That was a fantastic game against Oklahoma. I remember we never sat the entire game and it was HOT in the upper level.
Right ... he was a really decent player.
You made a trip to the Cricket that night. LOL! I made a stop or two there in my time. Did you feed the bears any $1 bills?Ended up going to the Cricket and Anthony's afterwards... get some of that .25 cent pizza..

I didn't say that, just that he was not usually playing. and he didn't have a name on his jersey, so him playing was unusual.Of course Rasp was a good enough basketball player that he was all state, so it's not like he was some bum off the street.
