33 in the Coaches Poll

The rankings are a joke. Absolutely dominating Duke did nothing to push PITT closer to the Top 25.

Also funny how Washington received a bigger bump in the rankings than Oklahoma, even though Oklahoma destroyed a Top 15 WVU on the road.

Beauty pageant at its best.

-Its win / loss perception. The teams with the least losses are perceived as better. That's why I said playing two Top 15 teams every year in the non conference is idiot scheduling since no one does it. Play 1 Top team and 3 teams like Indiana and Rutgers.

-Pitt would easily be in the Top 15 had we not played Ok. State, the potential Big 12 Champion on the road, and replaced them with Rutgers, the worst P5 team in history.

You guys don't know this, but evidently now voters are allowed to figure in attendance into the rankings.

Speaking of which, lots of empty seats in Cleveland today, but they just don't blare at you like the Big Bird empty seats at Heinz.

Go Pitt.

Until there is an increase in the number of teams in the playoff, you're correct. If a team is from a P5 conference with 1-2 losses toward the end of the season, that team will be in the hunt for a spot in the playoffs and ranked in the Top 10 to 15.

-A boatload of teams with 3 losses are going to lose next week. Some of them are going to get killed. North Carolina, Virginia Tech, and Pitt should all be ranked after next week I would think.

-Im almost flabbergasted teams like Minnesota and Arkansas have more votes than Pitt. Its almost sad really.

-Winning changes perception. That is why I said strongly on this board, draw a complete nobody in the bowl game, a complete weakling in P5, and blow them off the field and get 9 wins and a Top 25 ranking. That changes perception. Playing midmajors that are good like Navy do nothing except set the program back.

The problem isn't the schedule, the problem is the system. The system should reward conference champions so that schools are free to schedule the best opponents for their fans. 1 cream puff as an exhibition and then the best schools you can schedule to put butts jn seats.

The blowout loss to Miami soured a lot of voters impressions of us. Plus it is hard to vote a team into the top 25 when you have basically the worst pass defense in the country. 127th out of 128th. I think even beating Syracuse doesn't get us in. If we win the bowl game though as well we finally get in.

-I strongly suggest you step back and actually look at some of the teams ranked ahead of us. Washington State lost to Division 2 Eastern Washington, at home.

Look I'm giving my thoughts. There will always be outliers but coaches especially obviously don't think we are top 25 material, and it most likely is the fact that we have an awful pass defense. Duke game aside.

-Its the fact Pitt has 4 losses. That is the ONLY reason. When other teams have 4 losses, Pitt will pass them.

It's not just the system it's the perception,The AP system means absolutely nothing anymore and the BCS poll is what matters

And the pass defense is 127th out of 128th and gets talked about all the time. Probably has something to do with it. Heck we beat Penn State and Clemson, the only team I think that beat 2 top 10 teams.

-Which means absolutely diddly shit. If Pitt was undefeated with the worst pass defense in the history of the universe, Pitt would be ranked in the Top 4.

Agree the OK ST game was dumb to schedule and I said as much back when they scheduled it. There is no regional rivalry and they have been good for awhile. Schedule one marque game(psu, wvu,ND,OSU,MI, bama etc etc) one lower level p5(someone like purdue, illnois, kansas, maybe even a kentucky or vanderbilt) one regional FCS and one regional mac team that hasn't been consistently good(IE not a Marshall or central MI but a kent state or akron)

We should have won that game and if we did we are probably like 16th now or something. If we win the UNC game we are probably like 12th. 2 games mean all the difference.

LSU is 6-4 and does not have anything close to the 2 wins we have. They are #25. That is a joke.
they are ranked in the top 25 because they are LSU. That and they are in the SEC. ACC still gets less respect than the SEC and B10. Really its those two, which happen to draw the best numbers, and everyone else when it comes to rankings. Its a biased system, at this point it doesn't matter Pitt will finish in the top 25 if we win our remaining games and even if we were 22 we would drop out if we lose again.

-The ACC is going to annihilate the SEC next weekend. Ton of games next week between the 2 and the SEC is going to get slaughtered.

We are in 4th place in a division where the champion isn't even going to be ranked in the Top 15. We have 4 losses. It isn't some anti-Pitt bias and it isnt hard to figure out.

If we finish 9-4, we should finish in the Top 25.

I think that's it. If we can beat SU and win our bowl game, we'll be in everyone's top 25. But just beating SU won't do it, no matter who loses ahead of us.

-You can bank on about 8 teams ahead of us losing next week. Whether we jump them or not will be determined, but all of them will have 4 losses at that point.

It should not matter what the name is. You look at the results and Pitt is far more impressive. We have the best win out of any college football team and a win over the #8 team.

So far looks like WVU actually has the far easier Schedule than Pitt or Penn State. Pitt has a tad tougher schedule than Penn State. Yet, don't underestimate the Big Ten Iowa, Minnesota and Temple with Pitt also being given points in Polls. Both have played Six Teams that have earned Points in Polls so far?
