4th and 1-the moment Souf, Law, nyaleel, etc

I gotta admit, I was wrong. My fear after reading how narduzzi defended that decision in Iowa is that he didn't learn. Apparently he did.

The irony is that I wouldn't have gone for it in that situation.

I was about 50/50 on it today. Tech really stacked the line, had a lot of guys in the box and I started to worry. But when you have a back like Ollison he is a straight ahead runner that almost always falls forward, so in that sense I was pumped about the decision. Well, he falls forward when it's a between the tackles or just outside the tackles run, not so much on these stupid toss plays. I understand why to call them occasionally, but that's when your speedier backs come in handy. Although I must say, I think in a couple weeks Ollison could be nearing the same percentage of the team's carries as Conner had last year. IMO he is clearly our best option right now.

The decision is made much easier when you are dominating the line of scrimmage. Pitt had almost three times as many yards rushing and had a full yard and a half more per carry in this game as they did in Iowa. Plus the other team needs a touchdown to win, not just a field goal. You have much more room for error.

As you can see, Iowa is no slouch either. They held Wisconsin to 86 rushing yards.

Believe it or not, coaches look at all of these things when they make their decisions. How the offense has done rushing to that point in the game, who is dominating the line of scrimmage, how the adjustments are working. There are many variables that go into that decision, not just one.

Their running success was more off tackle than the 1 and 2 holes. But yeah, his big body does tend to fall forward which is a good thing. They must have seen a weakness off tackle because they really attacked it right after halftime.

Totally agree with everything posted and I think you clearly know a great deal about the game of football.

Thank you for the kind words. Sorry about the last post. I accidentally hit enter before I got to finish it.

If I read it right I think I got what you meant though. I like the runs off tackle, I just don't like tossing the ball way out to a bigger back when it takes at least a couple seconds for him to get back to the line of scrimmage. Especially against a tough defensive front. A straight run where you hit the hole just off tackle, yes I agree a lot of success on those plays today.

Yeah, I don't get running a big back outside unless they are just trying to mix it up so they are not predictable. But I think there are more productive ways to do that instead of wasting a play.

What do you think the issue is with James? He just doesn't look good. He doesn't look comfortable. I guess it could be the concussion. I know when my son got his last year, he wasn't running the same afterwards.

Either the concussion or I think I heard somewhere else there may possibly be another injury. (Could be wrong about that one, but he's definitely banged up.) It was pretty shocking to me as well, as Conner, Ibrahim, and James all played very well last season I thought.

Well I hope he gets well. Pitt will need him in the long run.

On a day when our punter kicked not one, not two, not three, but four balls from Virginia Tech territory into the end zone for a touchback of course going for it was the correct decision.
