To follow the earlier thread,

Name in order most likely to least likely, the 5 Pitt/ Pittsburgh coaches to be fired after their upcoming season.

Most likely to least likely

Narduzzi

Sullivan

Capel

Shelton

Tomlin

And...just to throw an SMF type thought, its quite possible all 5 could be canned in one year.

That.....would be biblical.......

Eh...this is actually tough.

1. Shelton - I can't believe he kept his job after last season. Not that it matters much with this team, but Shelton has zero track record and making a move could've provided false hope with Skenes in the rotation.

2. Sullivan - Like Tomlin, he's living off past success and must manage an aging roster. In both situations, I think a new direction could've resulted in more success.

3. Capel - Unlikely with his contract to be fired anytime soon, this season is tough to ignore. A very good start to the season has spiraled and probably will result in Pitt missing the tournament yet again.

4. Narduzzi - The long-term extension has him safe for awhile.

5. Tomlin - Playoff wins are no longer an expectation for the Steelers. He has a lifetime contract if he wants it.

Shelton should absolutely be the first to go (and should’ve been gone after 2023), but at what point do we expect him to hang around simply because Nutting doesn’t want to buy out the rest of his extension?

Regardless, I hope the end the 2025 season will usher in both a new manager and GM. I was a Cherington fan for a while, but it shouldn’t take six seasons to even sniff the postseason.

Yeah I agree Shelton is likely #1 (along with Cherrington thank god).

As for the others?
Sullivan? It depends on if he is willing to accept a rebuild and play younger guys and accept they are going to make mistakes instead of veterans who he excuses who makes mistakes.

Narduzzi. Depends also. If he goes 4-8 after going 0-6 to end the season and 3-9 the season before I am not sure how he survives. Of course I wouldn't be surprised if Narduzzi just retires.

Capel. I have to think missing March Madness will at least force Capel to have to fire a couple of assistants and that might be enough to cause him pause.

Tomlin. He can kill 3 year olds in front of Art II and still keep his job. He plays out his contract then maybe goes into broadcasting for

At this point that's the only reason he's still here. Ol' Bob ain't paying two guys to manage this team.

Whether he stays or goes at this point is based entirely on how long that last extension that he signed lasts. If it's up at the end of this season then he'll likely be gone. If it goes through next season then he'll likely stay.

If it goes through 2027 then I'll bring the torches if one of you other guys brings the pitchforks.
