Even with a record a few games under .500 in the ACC, that usually puts you in decent shape for an NCAA Tournament bid. I'm actually pretty suprised that Pitt has done this well in ACC games. 6 of their last 9 games are against the 2 worst teams in the league (ND and BC) so they have a legit shot to finish above .500...........and not be anywhere close to an NCAA bid. Too many midweek and pre-ACC losses to mid-major and minor D1 teams. Its amazing this team can be so competitive against really good competition on the weekend in the ACC but lose to MAC teams in the midweek. It cost us an NCAA bid last year and will this year as well.

Good points and I think this shows our lack of deep pitching. Most teams throw their good pitchers on the weekends and so mid-week games (non conference) is where our weaknesses show. Time and recruiting with a full slate of scholarships will help this IMO.

What you say is true. However, in theory, these MAC teams we consistently lose to in midweek should also be throwing their 4th and 5th starters, so we should not really be at a disadvantage there.

I was returning to my office and was listening to Clemson radio just now and they were saying the same thing about their team. They've lost to some "MAC" teams down here mid week too but they win more because they have deeper pitching (and better hitting) so they lose less often. My point is with more arms - we will lose less often to MAC like schools but it will still happen.
