Here are nine guys I want to see Pitt go after. 8 have some chance and the one at the top would be like hitting the lottery

Kirk Saarloos-TCU pitching coach and ex big leaguer. Longshot of all longshots but top guy on my list. Has turned down some jobs in the recent past.

Scott Forbes-UNC assistant. High level ACC guys are never a bad thing

Chris Lemonis-Indiana HC. I think the ACC could help lure him if the pay was right

Kevin McMullan-UVA assistant. Another high end ACC guy

Jeff Duncan-HC Kent State. Young coach who did well in Ohio and could do well here

Bradley LeCroy-Clemson recruiting coordinator. Another ACC guy

Nick Schnabel-Michigan assistant. Good young coach and recruiter

Shawn Stiffler-VCU HC. Had success in a market not too far from us

Gary Henderson-Mississippi State interim HC. May or may not stay at MSU. I’m friends with a big MSU baseball booster who says they want a much bigger name even though Henderson has done well.

All good candidates....Asst. Oakes also.....This search will be challenging!! I hope she didn't step in it with this sports team hire...but I'm sure she has her ducks all in a row and succeeds in bringing in a very successful/veteran coach to turn us around in college baseball !!-

McMullen would be a home run. He’s turned down many opportunities to leave. He’s not leaving unless we put the investment in

Stiffler would be really good as well. He could put a staff together who could recruit PA much better than Pitt has

Oakes should also get consideration.

Good list in the OP. McMullen should be the top target. He started his career as head coach at IUP. Now, he is one of the top 2-3 assistants in the country. As someone mentioned above, he will need big $$ to leave UVA. He has turned down much better programs, but Heather has pulled some magic before.

Is cohen leaving miss state??

Been gone. Was replaced for 2017 by Andy Cannizaro, young up and coming coach. Got off to great start but some off field stuff happened and he was fired after the first week of this season...Henderson became the interim guy. Cohen is now the AD there

McMullan was a star baseball (catcher) and football (linebacker) player at IUP ..... in their Hall of Fame in both sports ....

As a baseball coach he is known as a very good recruiter and developer of players ..... has head coaching experience at the college and pro level (minor leagues) ..... he would be a very good choice.

Thanks

I think top priority is a guy that knows the ACC receruiting footprint well and has had success recruiting there. I’d prioritize that over HC experience/winning as HC as some of those guys are at northern schools in Midwest /B1G country which may not translate to where we can recruit well potentially.

We basically need the baseball equivalent of Jeff Capel.

Completely agree. That was the bulk of my list. The exceptions are minimal to this criteria. Saarloos is a rising star and would do well anywhere, though he’d be nearly impossible. Lemonis is a HC who hasn’t quite broken through but has come very close to getting IU on the map and recruits well. I think he could do well in the ACC. Schnabel is a solid coach and great recruiter from Michigan. And Duncan is a guy who wouldn’t be moving that far from Kent State if he can really capitalize on Ohio/PA/NJ and to a lesser extend NY and bring in some southern kids. Everyone else is ACC/SEC based or a guy in ACC territory at VCU

He was married and was having an affair with a staff member. He was texting her in the middle of games. Not a good career move.

Speaking of Mississippi State, cross Lemonis off the list because he’s taking the MSU job. But that should free up Henderson

I have heard some ACC assistants and Head coaches at smaller schools have been targeted

Some have been suggested already.

Two names I have heard nobody has mentioned yet

1) Greg Lovelady UCF

2) Billy Mohl USF

Also have heard Oakes will not be considered and the divorce between Jordano and Pitt was not very cordial

Lovelady is another guy I would like. He’s done a GREAT job building up UCF. They had 6 guys drafted this year, 4 last year. Nearly all pitchers. Had some promising recruits this year too. Under 40 played at Miami and coached there as an assistant. Also real success at Wright State in a few years there before going to UCF.

Mohl is interesting. He’s been USF HC for one year and assistant there last few. He’s only 34 this past month as one of the youngest coaches in D1. Would have a buyout drop to $650k next week. Very inexperienced but a rising star who specializes in pitchers- USF’s strength

Back when I was coaching summer ball
I used to get guys from Lovelady at Wright State all the time. Always sent me good players.

Duncan wants the Indiana job. He makes 250,00 at Kent so we would have to substantially beat that to be a player for him

Shawn Stiffler is a Somerset High Grad. Has a MUCH younger brother that was a high round draft pick about 5 years ago and just hung up the glove due to injuries. His grand father was from McKeesport and pitched for the Phillies and White Sox in the 50's early 60's. His uncle on Mom's side played at Somerset mid 70's and pitched for Clemson in the College World Series late 70's.

Duncan did not get the Indiana job, so he’s still out there
