... call them "undribbles" if you will.
Whether it be a good season or a season much like this one, there are few things that gives me more than a little personal joy is seeing a maligned player enjoy some nice success.
We've all been pretty hard on Kene. I readily confess to being part of "we." Most don't think he should be playing, nor even back next year.
But Kene was not the Panthers best player overall today, he was certainly our best player from the 3:00 minute mark of the first half to the 12 minute mark of the second half.
In the that 11 minute stretch, we outscored Duke 28-13. So very much of that was because of Kene.
So let's give Kene a huge shout out for his evening built almost completely upon energy and effort.
And yes, for the first time this season, I wanted to see Kene on the floor.
Otherwise, during the other 29 minutes of the game, we were outscored 74-24.
Urgghh.
I can't say that I was completely surprised nor discouraged with the result otherwise.
It was worse that I was hoping for, but certainly as bad as I thought it could have been.
For me, the only truly discouraging point was Marcus Carr. I don't know if he's unwilling or unable to get by people with the dribble. I only know for sure that he isn't.
If Marcus is the one player we are all pretty sure has the potential to be a higher end ACC player as a junior, I'd feel better if it just looked a little more like it now.
There is one more discouraging note. The crowd. 9,108 wasn't a terrible number. And when Coach K had to call a TO after Kene and the Panthers cut it to 17 in the second half, it was almost as fun and energetic for that one and only moment as it seemed 8 years ago when an opposing coach had to call TO after the Panthers went up 17.
But with such a large portion of the 9K being Duke fans (maybe 1/5?), I worry that we've seen our last game at the Pete this year with the joint at least half full.
Hope not. We need as many as we can get on Saturday when we will have one of our few decent chances at an ACC win.
