I get frustrated with Dixon as much as anyone, but it's important to look at the big picture with the transition from Big East to ACC hoops. Jamie's teams had the highest winning percentage in Big East play history with hardnose defense, but only able to score 65-70 points per game. Three years in Jamie's team is beginning to resemble an ACC team and able to score and run the floor. I understand there's still work to do (ex. Louisville game), but Dixon should be given credit for turning the team from a Big East team to an ACC team in just 3 years. Trying to stay positive and hope the team develops into an annual ACC title contender in the near future.

Agree. The new NCAA rules on "freedom of movement" makes it hard to play the Big East style that put Pitt on the map in the early 2000s. I'm not saying our defense is where it needs to be, but I don' think any team can play as physically as we played 10 years ago without having too many key players foul out. As times change, so must the Panthers, and these last couple seasons may be our growing pains.

The problem is that the refs in the Louisville game didn't ref according to the new "freedom of movement" rules. Pitt was screwed in that game from the tipoff, because Pitino talked the refs into reffing an old Big East game instead of the rules as they are *NOW*.

I appreciate your positivity, but will still maintain that the difference between ACC ball, or Big East ball or Big West ball is greatly overblown, and much more narrative, with little data to support it.

Maybe it was something in the 80's with G-town and Patrick Ewing. But not much after that.

I don't know if there is a difference between Big East basketball and ACC basketball , but I think we won the game today because we made the game much more physical in the 2nd half led by Mr. Luther's (and other's) effort.

Virginia, Clemson, & Louisville (and Miami also, to an extent) seem to be faring quite well playing 'Big East' ball. If Pitt had the players they did when they were winning Big East Championships, they'd be doing just fine in the ACC with that same style.

DT, I know what you are saying because BB referees cross conferences unlike football where they officiate games for a single conference and more of a culture can develop.

However with that being said, in the ACC I have never seen a throwdown like Blair gave Hasheem Thabeet. I only wish the big fella would have made it official by jumping on top and getting the 3 count to complete the greatest pin in Big East history.

IMO the change in scoring has everything to do with the 30 second clock as well as having multiple scorers and a deep roster and NOTHING to do with 'ACC ball'.

Hey... if we still have the teams we had back then and moved to the ACC with them... we would do GREAT because all the ACC teams would not be used to our style of game and would have great difficulty with it.

Also.. as Jay Bilas put it... Pitt is a better team offensively with Dixon as opposed to Howland (and this was BEFORE the move to the ACC), but an inferior team defensively. This was a while back and things have gone more along those lines since then.
