A totally safe hire would be Matt Painter of Purdue. A lot of consistent Steak, a vanilla hire.

When Jamie Dixon hired him as an assistant for the World Under 18 team I thought it was an interesting choice and likely in Dixon’s image a little bit.

He makes $2.3 per year. Purdue is one of those schools I always thought was a weird cousin to Pitt. He seems like someone who could coach at Purdue for life but who knows, people make changes for various reasons.

Painter would be one of those choices that would be “safe”.

I feel like a big thing too (beyond wondering why in the world he would even leave Purdue for Pitt) is that it’s a lot easier to contend in the Big Ten than it is in the ACC.

Safe? Painter is a top-level, potential HOF coach. He is Dixon-esque in the tournament though and I just wonder if they exit early again, will Purdue fans start grumbling enough to make him loom for a scenery change. He's probably unrealistic but worth a call

I don't know. Just wondering if Purdue goes out early again, if it may be time for a change in scenery. He has a senior-laden team.

As for Cuonzo, he will pick up and go anywhere for an extra ham sandwich.
