AAC looking at GOR for next contract

I believe in order to get UCF and perhaps Houston on board they are offering some kind of Texas and the Big 12 deal .

Talk about the AAC schools signing over their rights for the next TV contract in order to sweeten the pot and get 3 to 4 times more cash than the current contract.

Smart move actually. If that's what they need to get more money, everyone should agree to it. Their last contract was way below market. I don't think they can expect to stay on ESPN. They really need NBC to make a play or maybe do something with CBS where they do a noon lead-in game to their SEC game. Remember, a GOR means that TV rights to your home games would stay with the American for a period of time, it doesn't mean you can't leave.

BTW, here's another SBJ article. This one is about expansion.

Says the likeliest destination for Texas is either B10 or ACC, just as I have always said. Also says the ACC could allow Texas to keep LHN or steal SMF's idea of allowing Texas to join for everything but football with an ND-type deal. Keep in mind, this is just the author saying this without any "inside information."

A Texas schedule could look like:
ACC
ACC
ACC
ACC
ACC
Texas A&M
Oklahoma
Texas Tech
Big-time game
Big-time game
Cupcake home game
Cupcake home game

Unless the money estimated is something attractive, UCF won't take it at this point unless say the deadline isn't till after next season and UCF falls off, UCF, even with no activity as of yet already has a foot out the door at some point. The AAC needs to push for thier Power 6 slogan to become reality of they even want to keep UCF or any other teams that may rise in that conference. I don't see the power 6 being granted though, so be surprising to see what UCF does with this. And also with this out, it may jump start some realignment quicker than expected if. Conference really wants them.

Not sure how a GOR would work in a conference where just about everyone (save for Navy, which is in only for football, and Wichita State, which is in only for basketball) is looking for a better opportunity.

But that's the point. If they agree, it adds some stability, which then will entice ESPN (or whoever wants to pay for the rights) to know what they are paying for long term.

If they won't agree, then their next contract won't be as lucrative.

No. Screw Texas and ND too. In or out?
