are you watching your future coach getting out coached by a bunch of unpaid grad students?

There's still time to change your mind, son.

Kid redshirts, plays for Franklin one year, then has to learn a new playback when the dominator gets canned

Franklin won't b there long. They are the definition of dumpster fire.

I would definitely rethink my decision if I were Matthews; Hackenburg just declared for the draft.

I think the Winfree commit left him on the outside looking in. Good luck to the young man, just not against PITT.

As did Boyd? A Clairton kid to PSU that has got to be a first.

Not sure I understand the "as did Boyd" portion of your post. Clairton to PSU is definitely strange. I think that starts and ends with Matthews as Toledo and PSU were likely his only two options left....maybe WVU?

So Pitt backed off? u obviously know more than I do!

Point was Boyd left early also as he should.

Agreed. Matthews was surprised by the Winfree commit, voicing his concern on Twitter. That appeared to be the last WR PITT was going to take in this class.

Matthews could be a great hybrid TE at the next level. Hopefully he does well at the next level.

Franklin could have his best possible year and they would still finish 4th in their half of the B1G behind OSU, MSU and UM.

It's just not going to happen for that program anytime soon... doesn't matter who they bring in.

He wants the chance to play WR and Pitt told him no! Pitt said they would take him on the D side. Ups said they would recruit him as a WR. It really came down to Toledo & ups as a WR.

As does Penn State, he will never see the field at WR. They have 2 - 6'4 " kids that red-shirted this year. If he chose PSU to play WR he picked the wrong school?

Not going to lie, I would've liked to get Mathews. He's the 7th or 8th best recruit in the WPIAL this year. He could've been beefed up to be an OLB or a Hybrid TE.

But his girlfriend goes to PSU. If they gave him an offer, he was gone.

Oh well... you win some, you lose some.

I sure as hell cant think of another but I haven't been following recruiting that long. Boyd was obviously offered and we know about him, I'm sure others but none that come to mind.
The last Clairton player at Penn State was Ray Weatherspoon (uncle of Kevin) in 1979. He later transferred to Pitt.

He obviously has been told in different ways that he's not good enough. And I don't mean by Coaches, fans and bloggers. When you want to play a certain position, and Toledo (and a late PSU offer) was your only options, then the writing was on the wall. What people say is irrelevant. Just look at the facts.

But I like an underdog. I want him to succeed. I wish him the best. But following your girlfriend is never a good idea...and neither is playing for Franklin. State College is a nice place. Hope the kid from Clairton enjoys it.

Just curious...how do his measurables stack up to Shanahan out of HS? He turned out alright.
