OK, I actually did not mind the 7 page thread, but it is literally all over the place.
A couple points about this Yellen situation. First, who knows if this works out.
But, it is important to note that the only reason this might be a thing is that ASU took THREE QBs in one class in 2019.
It is also important to note that while Yellen is making our hearts flutter, he was the second best prospect in that class and is available only because the more highly ranked kid has a lock hold on the job at ASU.
So, we are excited to potentially get ASU's second best QB. Honestly, looking at his video he does not blow you away, but does seem to be a guy who slings the ball pretty well, and looks like a fit for the Whipple offense.
One of the intriguing elements to this situation is that it would retroactively double down on QB recruiting for the 2019 class - in essence adding Beville and Yellen, putting Pitt into the position to an extent that ASU put itself in to double down (triple in their case) on the chance to get a good QB out of the class.
This is what the big programs are doing even more today than ever. This one HS QB a class is the bare minimum for QB recruiting, and in the case of the average program results in mediocre QB play because you are more often getting what Pitt has gotten, one of the mid level guys like a Pickett who you kind of like.
But recruiting is odds and you don't even end up with that a lot of the times because the hit rate on them is 1 in whatever ...
But, what we are hoping for here is that we can get Yellen and instead of a 1 in 4 or so chance be at maybe at a coin flip of getting a good QB once KP rides off into the sunset.
This whole laissez faire approach that Whipple seems to have taken with QB recruiting this year has been unacceptable frankly, and disappointing how QB centric his offense has been. I thought I read here somewhere that he and Nards didn't like the quality of QBs in this class, but again given what Whipple is as coach I would have thought he would have been bird dogging QBs trying to get a guy who fit what he was doing even while still at Massachuesettes.
They CAN NOT come out of this class wo at least a Rodemaker quality prep, because QBs are simply too hit and miss to not keep bringing in live bodies. It took the entirety of Nards tenure at Pitt just to get the room to the point of the bare minimum in class distribution.
