David Hale had an interesting tweet about the percentage of redshirts from teams in the ACC last season. Pitt had the third highest last season behind Wake and NC State.

im not sure there is a right answer. I'd love to play a lot of true freshmen IF they are ready and better options than the returning players but id HATE to play our true freshmen because we have too because our upper classmen suck..So what do the numbers imply? Do you redshirt many because you have so much upperclass talent you can afford to do so? Or do you redshirt many because your class is relatively weak and needs more development time?
Do you do the opposite (redshirt few) because your upperclassmen aren't very talented? Or, because your recruit class is so overwhelmingly great that many have to play right away?
Each team's reasons for or against redshirting few or many is probably team and year specific. Assuming so, making generic conclusions about the overall meaning of the data as a whole relating to the conference may not be a very useful learning exercise for the fan.
