The next 3 series are crucial to Pitt's chances of making the ACC baseball tournament. Right now we are IN, but hanging on by a thread.

The 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference Baseball Tournament will be held from May 20 through May 25 at Greensboro, North Carolina.

The winner of each seven team division and the top eight other teams based on conference winning percentage, regardless of division, from the conference's regular season will be seeded one through ten. Seeds one and two will be awarded to the two division winners. The bottom four seeds will play an opening round, with the winners advancing to a double-elimination round.

Current ACC baseball standings:

ATLANTIC
Florida State 17-7
Clemson 12-11
Wake Forest 12-12
Maryland 9-14
N C State 9-15
BC 8-16
N 4-17

COASTAL
Miami 19-5
Virginia 18-6
Duke 15-9
UNC 13-11
GaTech 12-12
Pitt 9-12
VaTech 7-17

These 10 teams are in, IF the season ended today:
DIVISION WINNER--Miami 19-5
DIVISION WINNER-Florida State 17-7

The next 4 in are:
Virginia 18-6
Duke 15-9
UNC 13-11
Clemson 12-11

These 4 play in the play-in single elimination round:
Ga Tech 12-12
Wake Forest 12-12
PITT 9-12
Maryland 9-14

These 4 will currently watch the tourney on ESPN3 from their couches:
N C State 9-15
BC 8-16
Va Tech 7-17
ND 4-17

So, you can see how critical our last 3 series, all against teams below us in the ACC tourney rankings, are:
Pitt 9-12 at BC 8-16
Maryland 9-14 at Pitt 9-12
Pitt 9-12 at ND 4-17

The opportunity is there, if we don't make it, no one is to blame but ourselves. Stay tuned and buckle up, it will be 3 interesting weekends coming up!

I'd love to see us get in the ACC Baseball Tournament in our 1st year in the league ...... those last three conference series are against teams behind us in the conference standings but two of those series are away and we haven't played very well away to date so we aren't guaranteed a playoff spot .... hopefully, we win enough games to make the playoffs. I don't think we have enough hitting, fielding, and depth of pitching to go very far, although you never know !

I would think 5 wins in the final 9 games will clinch a spot, and we got one today vs BC. 14 wins in the ACC would pretty much eliminate BC and VT and ND already is eliminated. We also might pass UNC which finishes with 6 games against FSU and Miami.

We have the easiest schedule of any of the teams competing for the final four tourney spots, so the original poster is correct: We will have no one to blame but ourselves if we don't make it.

How many sports does Syracuse compete in now? They dropped wrestling years ago and also have dropped baseball and track.
