Are people generally happy or unhappy with the ACC’s bowl tie-ins? I am unhappy.
I wouldn’t go to Detroit for a bowl game or anything else for any reason. I have lived in NYC and gone there for work probably 20 times as an attorney, so a bowl game there is not going to attract me. But, from the comments about the Pinstripe Bowl last year, I suspect most Pitt fans enjoyed it. It seems clear most Pitt fans don’t enjoy Charlotte, but i don’t believe there is any way the ACC would give up participation in the only NC bowl game.
What I would like to see, from a personal point of view, is the ACC workout a tie-in with the New Orleans Bowl and one of the bowls in Miami and Tampa/Orlando. Both bowls would have to move to later in the year and increase their payouts, but I think they could do it with a more attractive game. An ACC vs Big Ten or Big 12 Game would be an attractive matchup for New Orleans, which isn’t that far from Big 12 country. An ACC vs SEC game in south Florida also would be an attractive game.
We already have a bowl game in Orlando, which is why the bowl in Tampa might be more feasible. People generally seem happy with the bowls in Nashville and Shreveport. I don’t know if we have a tie-in with the bowl in Annapolis or not, but if the weather is decent that is a great place to go.
I live in California, but my general rule on Winter vacations is follow the sun. I think bowl tie-ins with Miami, Tampa, Orlando and Jacksonville would accomplish that. New Orleans and Nashville are great places to visit. NYC and Annapolis probably need to stay for regional purposes. And Charlotte probably we can’t get rid of. That is 9 tie-ins and we probably need 10 with 15 teams, but I think the ACC needs to drop Detroit and work out deals with Miami, Tampa and New Orleans.
And though they are easier trips to me, no tie-ins with bowls on the West Coast or Mountain States or Texas.
Thoughts?
