Top seed Don Forys won easily, 5-0. Redshirt frosh Taleb Rahmani, who was not even starting at the beginning of the season, demolished the #1 seed from VT, 13-5. He got takedowns and back points twice with a move one announcer said he hadn't seen since grade school 20 or 30 years ago. Rahmani said it was taught to him by his HS coach.

Campbell up now.

Campbell won 7-0 to win at 165. No more Pitt wrestlers alive. Turning point was when NC State wrestler looked like he would get opening takedown, but Campbell reversed him and got the two. Then rode him the rest of the period. Ended with two TDs, an escape, a stalling point and riding time.

His problem at nationals will be when opponent gets him in close. He is much more effective from a little distance.

.... and Solomon came in 3rd..... he got accidentally kicked in the head in the 2nd period, I believe, and it looked like he couldn't continue but after a few minutes he came around and finished the match with a nice win for 3rd place.

Rahman looks unconventional ..... looks like he is in trouble and in the next second he has his man on his back ...... very interesting to watch him wrestle, never a dull moment.

Forys and Campbell dominated in the finals.

Looks like final team standings ......

1) Virginia Tech - 93 points
2) North Carolina State - 64
3) Pitt - 54
4) Virginia - 52.5
5) UNC - 44
6) Duke - 24.5

Since I don't follow college wrestling that much can someone tell me what ever happened to Clemson and Florida State. Didn't these schools both have wrestling teams at one time?

I knew Syracuse dropped wrestling a few years back

Rahmani is fun to watch. Has some flair and funky moves in him , and to date it hasn't cost him like it seems to do with Mikey R. Hope I have not just given him the kiss of death at nationals. Did Mikey even wrestle?

Clemson gave up wrestling many years ago. I do not remember FSU ever having a team. I do not believe any major Florida school ever had a wrestling team.

The Pitt site says Mikey was removed from the team for violating team rules. Robert Lee who has wrestled at 141 all year wrestled in his place. We did not get any team points at that weight class. Not having Mikey hurt us, but hats off to the coaches for standing on principle and making a gutsy call.

Yeah, Syracuse dropped wrestling in 2001 ...... they had a few national champions in the past ..... I know that Jim Nance from Indiana, Pa. won the NCAA National Heavyweight (Unlimited) championships for Syracuse in 1963 and 1965 and Gene Mills won the 118 lb championships in 1979 and 1981.

The Syracuse coach took the job at WVU and basically took their wrestling team with him. I don't know if he still is there.

Most of the ACC doesn't field wrestling teams. I don't remember Clemson or FSU having teams.

I love watching Rahmani. He's not as reckless as Mikey was. Both of his near fall moves were counters off an attempted takedown by the other guy. He doesn't really scramble like Mikey did. He appears to be very flexible and is able to spin around behind and get the takedown and tilt his opponent to his back simultaneously. Both his near falls came that way. He doesn't appear to be real strong though. Of course, the guy he beat 13-5 for the title was totally ripped, but it didn't matter when he was on his back.

We took 3rd and we're down to about 18 guys on the roster. A tremendous effort by all involved.

Anyone know Rahmani's history's?

He was an Ohio state champion, got beat out by Jake Wentzel at wrestle-offs, but Wentzel broke his thumb and took a medical redshirt this year. Taleb is really funky and unconventional, and has really come on since getting the starting job. His matches are always entertaining.

are you allowed to say who

Some of the the guys aren't with us due to serious injury like Barth, Delp, Seipel

By my count, 11 other guys have either quit, been removed from the team due to conduct issues, or are suspened from the program.

Will there be a way to get both Wentzel and Rahmani in the lineup at the same time next year? [do either have a body type that will allow them to take off weight to go down one class or put it on to go up two since Campbell is at 165?]

Well, Rahmani was recruited as a 149 pounder. He looks like he could get down a class much easier than he could move up to 165. I doubt Wentzel could drop down. If Rahmani could get down, he would be tough at 149 because he would be stronger than most 149 pounders.

that would be one heck of a 1-2-3 punch from 149 to 165!

I was thinking that Rahmani is exactly the type of wrestler who could get lucky and beat Nolf. Catch him with that crazy counter and pin him before Nolf knows what happened.

Keep dreaming Mike! Sounds good.
