ACC Refs vs Comcast

Can't tell what upsets me more.

First:

On the 2 prior times McGowens drove to the basket, he was mugged. You want to swallow your whistle? Ok, I can understand since it's overtime. But then you call THAT on Brown? If you're going to call something, it better be blatant since you already set the standard by the prior non-call on the drive to the basket.

Now, watching the replay of that, when I see a ref so emphatically make the call, it indicates to me they are more interested in making a call vs making the right call. It's their 15 seconds of fame.

Second:

I live in the Pittsburgh and I can't even get the ACC Network on Comcast? Really? I can get the SEC Network though. Great! Now I can watch a conference where the nearest school is 500 miles away. But I can't watch the school in my own city. Go on Comcast, tell me again how this is about cost savings for me. Because my bill goes up every other month anyway....and I don't get any more channels for it.

Don't try to bring that up here, as that riles the boards. They'll teach you how to string tinfoil from rabbit ears before they'll admit that the Pitt AD has been incompetent in getting the ACC to get Pitt's game's on in Pittsburgh. They'll blame the basketball gods, the Russians or aliens before they'll point a finger at the failure by the Pitt AD.

Pitt’s ad has nothing to do with espn negotiating with Comcast .

I watched the game and I live in pittsburgh .

guess I made better consumer choices

Russians, aliens, and Heather Lyke all share the same percentage of fault for Comcast not picking up ACCN NATIONALLY. 0.0000%

This is what Comcast does. They didnt have BTN for a year and didnt have ESPNU and ESPN3 for 5 years. They dont want to pay anything for sports.

And Pitt just sits back and says, "thank you sir, I'll have another". That's just not the way a real leader acts. It takes two to negotiate--this is far more important to Pitt than it is to Comcast, that Pitt can't get it done is on them. Frankly if I'm Comcast, I'm asking Pitt to pay THEM to put the games on, and frankly Pitt should.

You’re dumb on this

you want Pitt to lose money on a broadcast because your cable sucks, you don’t know to use a vpn, or use one of a dozen different ways to watch ?

yeah/
Lyke is the failure

I hope you’re a troll because I’d hate to think you’re this stupid.

To be honest, I'd be very surprised if ESPN even permitted individual AD's to negotiate with Comcast. If ESPN caught wind of Heather making her own negotiations with Comcast, they'd probably make a call to Swoff to tell her to cut it out

Why on earth would they allow it? It's not her job. She would not only be doing something that's not her job, she'd be negotiating for television rights that she has no control at all over. It's as if the OP can't get it through his head that when you join a D1 conference you sign over your television rights to the conference as part of the deal.

Pitt can't negotiate with Comcast over their television rights any more than they could negotiate with Comcast over the rights to show Penguin games or Stiller games. You can't sell something that you don't own.

ACC is totally responsible for cutting a deal with Comcast. It is obvious you will go out of your way to bash Pitt.

But not everyone has the same choices available. I don't have any other options available besides Comcast (unless I want DSL). And to add on anything like Hulu+ is an extra $50+ per month.

You can have Comcast internet and a streamer like Hulu, YTTV, or Sling. I pay $150/month for Comcast internet and YTTV

A lot of people can't cut the cable if they are in a contract with Comcast and not only do they carry the sec but also the btn

I thought you said you saved all kinds of money by cutting the cord. You’re not saving anything if you’re paying $150/month

I was paying $250 a month with Armstrong and now pay around $185 for the zoom internet, hulu live, philo, and nhl.tv.

I get more content for 65 less a month. The cable boxes killed me in price.

I had the same/similar issue here in the DC Exurbs--Comcast (Xfinity) or DISH or Direct TV (no FIOS -- only DSL from the phone company). I solved the problem by adding a Satellite broadband internet service. I also dropped my land line phone service and only use cell service so I also got rid of a phone company bill. Pretty sure you could do the same. Just add a satellite internet service, use a Smart TV if you have one, or buy an inexpensive Roku, or similar device, to connect to your TV and you can add a streaming TV service like HULU or You Tube TV or Sling or ? and still wind up with a total monthly bill not higher than what you are probably paying Comcast and very possibly lower. Here is a link about satellite internet service available in Pennsylvania--

Man you guys pay a ton for service, can’t imagine how pricing in the Pittsburgh market is that much different from where I am 2 hrs away in Ohio.

Maybe it’s because you only have one cable company to pick from? I have 2 with Spectrum and ATT U-verse plus the satellite options and of course all the streaming options. I pay $109/ month which gives me just about everything including NetFlix except the premium channels like HBO, SHOWTIME, STARZ. But if I wanted to add any of those it would only be an extra $15/month. And I have my price frozen for 3 years.

You arent including internet in that price.

“The cable boxes are killing me.” This is what I can’t understand. Years ago when the boxes were introduced Comcast offered the option of purchasing the box. I did it and within two years recovered the purchase price. When my contract was up Comcast informed me the policy changed and I could only rent the box. I can’t understand how cable companies can continue to gouge customers through this rental only policy. Surely Motorola or whoever could carve a niche by offering sales to the public.

why don't some of you actually attend the games. that arena is not sold out by a large margin.
I attend every game. And I go to my local bar to watch the away games. But that doesn’t change the fact that Lyke’s failures to get Pitt on local TV has resulted in most casual fans missing the games. Those fans arent going to go out of their way just to watch Pitt. Yet, if they could just change the channel they would.

Pitt is totally responsible for getting what’s best for Pitt. If their agent (ACC) is not getting the job done, Pitt needs to make sure they do.

Lyke is out of her league in the business part of the job.

You are absolutely right, it takes two to negotiate. Unfortunately, Pitt is not one of the two. Nor would it be allowed to be. Why do you have so much trouble understanding that?

Yes Pitt or Lyke can’t go out and independently broker a deal with Comcast or whomever, and posters on here can jump all over Fredact in here for suggesting it.

However, the ACC who did broker the current ACCN arrangement is responsible for serving the interests of all its member schools. Given that the current arrangement doesn’t have the ACCN represented on the major cable provider in the Pittsburgh market, you sure would hope that Pitt and Lyke is letting the ACC know that is not acceptable and the ACC in turn is letting ESPN know it. Yeah, that might not get anything immediately accomplished but you better be voicing your thoughts on it to hopefully push things along at a faster pace.

Is Comcast in other ACC markets? Is the ACCN on Comcast in those markets? I don't know the answer, but if other ACC fans with Comcast cannot watch their teams either, then people should not be blaming Pitt.

You arent getting cable and internet with all the sports channels for $109/month unless its some type of promo. No way.
Well of course it’s a promo, get one every year. When mine is due to expire, I make the call and automatically ask for the retention department. After having to ask 3 or 4 times, they finally transfer me to the retention department. The last time, I told them I was tired of having to make this call every year and was also going to move elsewhere because of the lower price streaming options. So this time, I was able to get my promo fixed for 3 years but can still cancel anytime I want.

I don’t know the answer but as I was typing my post I was wondering if ACCN was available on whatever the cable provider is in Boston and Syracuse/NY.
