Any team could beat any other team on any given night. That has been proven multiple times this year alone. We just have to win each game as it comes and forget the rest. We could have easily lost to GT, but we didn't in spite of some poor defense on our part for most of the game. SU isn't going to roll over, ND will be hyped and motivated to win one for Brey, and Miami will be especially difficult on the road. But this is now in our hands alone. Win out and we win the ACC regular season championship.
So if Pitt would the regular season title, it would be the only team since 2000, who switched conferences , not just in the ACC, but all of the P5 to win a conference title in football and hoops???
Hmmm... Utah has never won the P12 in basketball, right?
In the current P5, probably. At least I can't think of any exceptions off the top of my hear. But Louisville has won a few Big East basketball and football titles, I believe, if we were extending that to "P6."
The ACC does not recognize a "regular season champion" so it will be amusing to see how Pitt might celebrate it.
It kind of does. It tells teams that they can hang a banner, for instance, as long as it says "regular season champion" rather than just "champion".
Since 1961, the tournament champion being the official champion and earning the automatic NCAA tourney bid has been in the bylaws of the conference. Yet both North Carolina and Duke, and all members, hang ACC Regular Season Championship banners in their facilities just like in any other conference.
And regular season trophies are also given out by the ACC for all sports, apparently including for basketball because word is they are sitting in a trophy case inside the JPJ at UVA.
These days, there is really nothing different between the ACC and other conferences in regards to regular vs tournament champion recognition.
