Division winners get the top 2 seeds, then the next 8 best percentage in ACC games get in. The last 4 must play a play-in game before advancing to the double elimination round.

As of Sunday night, here is how they stand.
There is a rare Monday night game involving 2 teams in the chase--Wake Forest at NC State

Pitt suffered a very bad sweep, but are still very much alive to break into the Top 10.

(using and adjusting Crazy Paco's model below, hope I updated it correctly)
DIVISION WINNERS
1. x-Miami 22-5 (.815) vs UNC
2. x-FSU 19-8 (.704) vs Duke

THE NEXT FOUR
3. x-UVA 21-6 (.778) @Wake
4. x-Duke 15-12 (.556) @FSU
5. UNC 14-13 (.519) @Miami
6. Maryland 15-14 (.517) ACC schedule finished

THE LAST FOUR play a play-in game
7. Clemson 13-13 (.500) vs BC
8. Ga Tech 14-16 (.467) ACC schedule finished
9. Wake Forest 12-14 (.462) 1 game at NCSU, vs UVA
10. NC State 11-15 (.423) 1 game vs WF, @VT
-----------------------------------------------------------

THESE FOUR ARE OUT OF THE TOURNEY (as of now)
11. PITT 11-16 (.407) @ ND
12. BC 9-18 (.333) @ Clemson
13. e-VT 8-19 (.259) vs NCSU
14. e-ND 6-21 (.222) vs Pitt

x = clinched ACC Tournament birth
e = eliminated from ACC Tournament

Wake sitting pretty right now at 8-2 top of 10th. But not over of course as nc state clearly fell apart Wake can as well still college kids playing this game.

ACC web site tells virtually nothing about the tourney--so my question is--what if Pitt and NCSU TIE for the last spot--who gets in? They didn't play, so head-to-head isn't a factor? What is next tie-breaker? Crazy Paco looked around and could find virtually nothing about the tourney?

Are you watching the game on espnU cuz I'm hoping at the end of the game they go over that because I was wondering the same question.

This is not the perfect article since a scenario with Pitt isn't discussed but it gives the tie break option bewtween two teams. Doesn't involve Pitt because it's a little old. But it seems like tie break goes to record vs common opponent. Sorry link is provided via my phone.

I think that is good for Pitt then because let's go to the top:

Division winners
Miami--both got swept
FSU--Pitt didn't play

3rd--UVA--NCSt didn't play
4th--Duke--Pitt swept Duke, NCState lost 2 of 3.

So we need Duke to hold 4th if Pitt and the Pack tie

The tie-breaker for two teams tied ....

- 1st is head to head record.

- If they didn't play each other or their record head to head was tied, then the tie-breaker is the two teams record against the highest rated common opponent..... if their record is tied against the highest common opponent then you go to the next highest common opponent and down the list of common opponents until one team has an advantage over the other.

- Last resort is a coin flip.

Re: The tie-breaker for two teams tied ....

As I outlined below, that is a good thing for us because of both got swept by Miami, they didn't play UVA and we didn't play FSU, so Duke is 4th and we swept Duke and they lost 2 of 3.

Mathematically though, we can still finish as high as 7th or as low as 11th and OUT.

Maybe we could win tie-breakers and finish 6th if a bunch of teams finish at 14-16, haven't figured out the [possibilities of that though. We can't finish above 6th because MD and Duke have 15 wins and the best we could do is 14.

Yeah, there are still a lot of possibilities of where we may end .... all we can do is the best we can with what we can control and that is to try and sweep Notre Dame and see where the chips fall ...... unfortunately, we seem to be playing very poorly recently ..... hopefully, we can turn it around this week ! .... it would be great to get into the ACC Baseball Tournament in our 1st season in the league !

Agreed, that would be a great goal for the first year just to MAKE the ACC tourney. Who knows if they get in, they may even win the play-in game and get to the double elimination round. Just hope they take the bats to Notre Dame and remember what to do with them.

I'm not really a hockey fan at all. Like you, I played baseball growing up, starting with Little League, then moving onto Pony and Colt Leagues, and finally American Legion baseball. Showing my age because they probably do's even have those "named leagues" any more? Our small high school in Western PA didn't have a baseball team, so I had to play for the community teams, lucky we had those.

What high school did you attend ? ..... I went to Indiana, Pa. high school.

Yeah, hitting has been our Achilles Heal this season and fielding has been below average ...... pitching was keeping us in games and when the pitching deteriorated late in the season, we had real problems.

East Deer-Frazer High School, now a part of the Deer Lakes school district, but I'll never agree to that!
