Adam zagoria tweets TCU offer to double Dixons salary

Isn't his salary 1.2 or 1.4 mil but with bonuses and deferred comp =3.2 . .If he left what is the statis of his deferred money ? I'd think since its deferred money Pitt would still be on the hook for it. Therefore he'd be getting paid by both schools .

Where in the hell is TCU getting all this money from? Its' success on the football field?

Anyway it is time to say bye-bye to Jamie, I wonder who their targets will be to replace Dixon

Nice, program regresses, recruiting stinks and Jamie has finished 5th, 9th and 9th in the ACC and he gets double his salary.

Wow, just wow.

Isnt TCU the school that put up or rebuilt a football stadium mostly thru "large" donations?
Lots of money in Texas!

Probably depends on the wording. If it's unvested Pitt might not need to pay it.

I would imagine they aren't doubling the amount of money he's been paid recently. They're probably just doubling the base salary up to around $3MM a year.

Remember it only takes one guy with too much money to write a check . To a billionaire 25-30 million is chump change .
It just rattles around in their checking accounts like the loose change in the jars or buckets most of us have. It just gets in the way!

Maybe this tells you more about what basketball people think of Jamie as opposed to what guys like you think of Jamie.

If you want to start the season 15-0 with wins against CCAC North, South, East, and West, Jamie Dixon is your man.

If you want to make the NCAA Tournament and win 1, maybe 2 games, Coach Dixon is your man.

If you want to go any further, look elsewhere.

...or maybe it tells you just how bad TCU has been and how desperate they are to be relevant in hoops? Just sayin...

double his salary? so what, 5.5 million annually? Sorry but that is nuts..

Bad destinations need to overpay to attract top talent. Just like the PIrates used to be in the Free Agent market.

How much do you think Pitt will have to pay to lure one of the top coaches people are talking about to come here?

Almost the same situation and a big gamble.

What it tells me is that it's no different elsewhere than here. Who's names are always thrown out first when any Pittsburgh-related team is in search of a coach. Someone with prior connections to the team or the area. Same thing with TCU, I'm sure the fact that he's a former TCU player has absolutely nothing to do with the attraction.

Yeah, this sounds more plausible. It is not like TCU is going to pay Jamie $5-6 million a year. No way. But I think the thing is a) Jamie is not going to have to take a step back in salary and b) how much of the buyout will Pitt hold to TCU?

Because that buyout money could be huge in throwing to another coach. Let TCU help pay for a top candidate.

Can somebody a splain something here

Even to match JD , with the buyout , wasn't that roughly 25 very large?

Now they want to double his salary too??
Doesn't that add another 15 very large??

For JD???
Huh??
Maybe I got the money wrong but couldn't you get POP and K together for that kind of dough??

You guys know this stuff what am I missing ??

Correct

To call anyone at TCU aBB guy would be grossly inaccurate. Let them pay JD the gaudy salary and pay Pitt the buy out. Pitt will be fine. Great university in a great conference in a great city. Dixon's warts will appear in 5 years and by that time the novelty of the native son returning to rescue his alma mater will be worn off. I just hope no one sends TCU's AD the Wiscy tapes before Dixon signs his contract.

why couldn't they just hire a young up and coming assistant for less money?

I have no idea if the rumors are true. However, if you want to energize your fan base, sell a bunch of tickets, and hopefully turn your program around--a formula for doing so would be to hire a "big name coach," "hire a guy with a winning record," "hire an alum," and "hire a guy away from a program upstream from you." Dixon satisfies all of those criteria in spades. Presuming TCU has the money for Jamie, would be a good hire on their part. I'd like to see Dixon remain at Pitt, provided it is not at the expense of extending his contract or increasing his compensation. If he wants more money or an longer deal...I say best of luck at your next employer. Hail to Pitt!

Agree with most of what you say except to say that with the exception of a downtrodden BB school like TCU, no AD could sell JD effectively, given his overall body of work and his most recent accomplishments, as a "big name" coach.

Like it or not, Jamie is now a "big name" coach. All you have to sell is his gaudy win/loss record, his 11/13 years appearing in the tournament, etc....and a fan base like TCU would swallow hook, line and sinker--at least for a few years. Of course if you examine some of those dazzling stats, as Pitt fans have, the current trend certainly is not nearly as good as his "early" Pitt years. Only at a place like TCU would Dixon be so appealing. Be sure, no blue-blood would have interest based upon his recent performance at his present price tag. Will be interesting to see how this "story" plays out. Hail to Pitt!

Winningest coach in BE history overall isn't his winning % over 70. Easy sell to a losing program

I guess it depends on what you imply by calling him a big name coach. Your qualification of his accomplishments, which I agree with, seem to suggest over rated may be the better descriptor.

Double?!Take it Jamie its a great deal!
Anytime someone doubles you salary take the job before they change their mind and think about it later!
Wow. If TCU is going to double a coaches salary who is .500 in a P5 conference over the past 3 years, I have a bridge I'd like to sell them.

I'm not just talking about TCU people. Basketball pundits in general have a much higher opinion of JD than some Pitt fans. That is a fact whether you believe the pundits right or the Pitt fans right.

Yes, you may be right but some of us have seen nearly every detail of what's happened over the last 13 years and therefore the views of Pitt fans can't be totally discounted. Some of these pundits are basing their views on stale data and minimizing what's occurred the last 5 years.

Given your track record of unreasonable expectations for the sports teams you follow, no one really takes your opinion seriously.

You wish! Take at look at the number of people who agree with me. As usual you belong in the corner with your dunce hat. You're a groupie and not a Pitt fan!
