Sam Houston Game & Other Dribbles ...

I think 2 things will happen eventually. He will adjust to the speed of the American game. And he will become more of a standstill shooter like Santos or Greg Elliot, guys who didnt dribble much. Catch and shoot.
His injury certainly has to enter into his development .

What a smart player learns is what he can and cannot do and learns from their mistakes. They also devote themselves to working on their weaknesses.

Speed and quickness are great assets, but knowing how to be in the right place at the right time is an instinct that can’t be taught .

I’m betting that when the lights turn on he’ll be a very impactful player .

Disagree again. 😄

I see more Lamar Patterson in his game than those other guys. If he sticks around, he's going to be a serious facilitator for us in addition to being a 3-ball threat.

A lot is being made of his handle. Yet, his turnover per minute rate is essentially the same as........Jaland's.

Jaland: 31 TO's in 410 minutes = 0.0756
Amsal: 11 TO's in 145 minutes = 0.0759

I think the turnover issues can be chalked up to getting acclimated earlier on. He's only had 2 TO's in his last 37 minutes of action.

All good points - thanks.

Can you really compare the turnover rate for a point guard with the rate for someone who doesn't handle the ball very much? This does not seem like a very useful stat.

I think his handle needs tightened and I’m hoping he’s realized it over the past few games since he’s been back. I do think he can be a ln excellent facilitator with the ball in his hands, just not sure the risk of TO’s at this point will give him a ton of opp’s right now. I doubt the injury has contributed negatively to his dribbling, only bcuz of how high he bounces the ball—-his Euro opponents weren’t nearly as quick or strong as his current comp.
He has a beautiful release from 3 and has shown good skills going to the hoop and adapting to make shots.
There’s no doubt in my mind he’s going to be an offensive weapon, it’s just a question of how quick it comes to fruition.
His biggest issue in my mind is foot speed and specifically defensive competency. This will keep him off the floor until he proves to Capel he can handle his D assignments.
Worst case this year is he gives them spurts of 3 point shooting. I really think he’s going to help this year, even if it’s only for 2-4 games when he’s making 3’s at critical junctures!
