Adou Thiero

I think he’s worth an offer here for a couple reasons, one of them being as a stash play - dad is 6’10, sounds like the kid’s still pretty young and grew a ton over the past year. Get him on the roster and maybe a year from now you’re looking at a kid who grew another couple of inches and can maybe be a viable big wing for you who can put it on the floor a little bit like a Gueye type.

I don’t think this is fair, but I think you need to give a little more benefit of the doubt to local kids - Cummings is the same way. We’ve gone like three seasons now without filling all 13 scholarships.

Why don't people believe Cal's offer is serious? Cal, like everyone else, has 13 scholarships. At best, teams have a 10 man rotation some only use seven players. Adou seems like the perfect kid for the 12th or 13th scholarship. A kid with a ton of strengths. His major weakness can be fixed with hard work. And if Cal is honest (insert your own joke here), he'll tell him he's a year or two away from playing time. It's really a low risk, high reward offer from KY. And it should be for Pitt and most power 5 five schools.

Agreed…..we have ZERO recruits. More players are leaving and Amadasun belongs at D2. We very well could have 8 or more new players. There is no excuse not to use all 13 ‘ships.

I can understand leaving one open as kind of a hedge against the 2022 version of Ontario Lett becoming available way late in the process and wanting to have a scholarship available if something like that does happen. And I could also understand if you had, like, eight or nine really good players on your roster thinking that there was no reason to go out and get a guy who was just going to sit on the end of your bench all year. But we are obviously not in that situation, so yeah, better to bring in a guy or two who are "future plays" who probably won't help this year but might be able to help in two or three years.

Not if you believe your not going to be there !

If he does bring in some projects that might mean he has a longer leash than any of us think .

No, it really doesn't. I mean don't we all agree that it is at least theoretically possible that he does well enough next year to save his job? And don't we all agree that at the very least HE probably thinks that he can save his job? Well if you think that you can save your job and somehow you manage to have a pretty good year next year and you do save your job, but then because you did nothing at all to prepare for anything beyond next year, the following season you fall right back off the cliff again, all you have done is delayed when you were going to get fired by one year.

If he thinks that there is any chance that he'll be here beyond next year (and he almost certainly does) then he has to recruit like as if he will be here beyond next year. To do anything else would be monumentally stupid.

When there’s no tomorrow why save for the future ?

He needs two MO’s and one Burton next season and the more experienced guys he gets from the portal the better chance he has of finding them . He doesn’t need two Wills sitting on the end of the bench .

He’s already working on next seasons freshman class with one commitment already , that’s his future not left over scraps from this yrs high school recruiting class . He needs instant production .

Saying that , if he feels that this kid is another Cam then by all means take him . Or someone else whose been committed elsewhere that can be impactful as a freshman that’s changed his mind do to a coaching change or a change of heart .

Developing kids with the portal is a total crapshoot , why waste two yrs on a kid for him to transfer out ?

Do you really think that he thinks that there is no chance for a tomorrow?

Your philosophy is like the guy who says well, my great grandfather died at 53 and my grandfather died at 57 and my father died at 55, so there's no sense saving any money for my retirement because I'll be dead before I get there.

And then they live to be 80 and spend the last decade of their life trying to figure out how to stretch Social Security to pay for everything.

Plus he’ll be judged on just more than next year’s results. If there’s small improvements but the evaluation is that it appears bleak beyond that he could still be canned.

Of course he’s hiting the portal hard and a majority hinges on next year but there’s no way Capel can look at it as next year only. If he has a decent next year and is in position to stay there must be a path/plan of some kind.

Yes, exactly.

No , he’s like the guy who just went to the oncologist and was told he has an 20% chance of being alive next yr . Better get done what you need to get done before it’s too late .

JC needs to worry about the following yr if he’s still here. He needs results now ( next season ) unless there’s some understanding with Heather that he’s good for a couple of yrs .

Let me tell you about stats ….there’s limited relationships between your parents living to be 100 and you doing so , but if there’s early death in your family ( everyone dies in their 30’s ) you better party now !

That’s why he has a high school commitment for the following yr .

So you would advise someone with a 20% chance of being alive next year to go ahead and spend all their money now, because they might not be alive next year.

I mean you can certainly do that. But when you end up being one of the 20% you've certainly screwed yourself for the future.

I‘d advise them to get the most important things done they’ve always wanted to do , but keep putting off . Would I advise them to go to a casino and bet all their money on red no . Money does you no good in the cemetery !

If JC wins with all portal guys and signs three good freshman for the following yr he’s safe , if he loses 25 games or only wins 4-6 ACC games next season he’s probably done ever being the HC of an ACC school .

If I’m this kid I tell capel to go to hell. Kentucky and Maryland can offer but my hometown team who is one of the worst d1 programs has not offered. This tells you capels ability to evaluate talent

Im far from a Capel defender, but my guess is that he knows that time is running short. If you have a one year window, grabbing a kid who is going to be a project is less of a priority than getting guys who can contribute immediately.

This is problem for all of the coaches. Unfortunately, if you don't play a kid when he's not ready he's going to end up on another roster.

Unfortunately - it doesn’t sound like we are involved with many HS seniors. Everyone seems to think Capel is putting all his eggs in the Transfer market.
Just into this thread and it’s on page 3 so probably lotsa talk on this but I was told this just a few hours ago. Basically Capel understands that if the team isn’t greatly improved he’s gone. Can’t worry about two or three years down the line if you’re not going to be there.

He just offered Thiero. We are going to have about 8 openings, so there is nothing wrong with having a kid with a lot of potential near the end of bench.

This is true. But he probably feels like he needs enough transfers to give him a solid top 7-8.

He didn’t take your advice and tell Capel to go to hell.

Is it wrong to hope Thiero goes to Pitt so that next season is incrementally more interesting? I'm just trying to find reasons to be at least kind of engaged

Kentucky isn’t interested in this kid. They were there for the kids from the other team. Stop with this nonsense. He has zero scholarship offers outside of Duquesne who apparently is barely pushing to take him.

Should we take him if we have open ships in July? Yes. Is it necessary for us to pull the trigger now, no. My guess is he does a 5th year
Are you sure? Stop with that nonsense??

That’s a SMF type of response. Just man up and admit you were wrong.
Not at all an SMF type response. Why would I have to “man up” and admit I was wrong? I was clearly wrong. I didn’t think Cal would scholarship a kid for 5 years to sit on the bench and cheer as the 12th or 13th man and I didn’t think the kid would want to do that. It’s an odd situation.

It'll look good on his transfer resume
