After that Epic Pitt Finish is there any doubt about Capel?

At the very least if he’s serious he needs to shake up his staff.
I agree but he won't. He doesn't have too. He's been very comfortable since day one because of where the program was when he took it over. I'm not knocking him I know hes a great guy and wants to win. But maybe a little oversight and fresh ideas would really help him. But he won't because like you said he's not serious or doesn't need to be and would rather keep things comfortable and mediocre instead.

Capel blows, and he's proven that time and time again. Hinson won him some games in spite of his lack of basketball accumen, and that's been it.

The fact that our guards are still taking turns trying to play And-one playground ball... I mean, come on.

This dude is extremely fortunate to have been associated with Coach K and to live off that Duke contact high after failing at Oklahoma, because he is extremely unqualified and wouldn't have gotten a sniff if his alma mater was Syracuse or something. Duke networking got him paid.

Yeah. Not saying either way but he’s a relatively private guy so I’m not sure the basis for saying this. Besides it’s irrelevant. Give me Bobby Knight.

Capel puts on a good face publicly. Who knows what he's like when not in a game coaching or being interviewed. Either way, he's not getting acceptable results and getting paid a ton of money to do that. Time for him to go or we're facing a lot of losing in the near future.

While I believe our offense is predictable and has no imagination...this didn't help:
Like I said in the other thread for sure a foul should have been called

But what was ish going ? He was flat footed. He made zero atttempt to move. Also why didn’t any of the other players come to the ball? It’s just a poorly designed inbounds play and low Iq players doing nothing after the initial option broke down.

Maybe I’d be more outraged if they actually deserved to win the game and didn’t blow it on any number of other plays down the stretch.

He is very knowledgeable and well spoken about the college game. I suppose that makes him a good face publicly, rarely have I heard him advocate for higher education or specifically the University of Pittsburgh.

I don't think Capel is all that much of an advocate for higher education. He's not a Pitt guy and doesn't have the pride for the university, except for how it makes him look as a basketball coach.

Yeah. They are paid to coach and win basketball games. Most coaches are mercenaries. And now that the game has been come semi professional the academic side of things is a total joke anyway

The win part seems to escape Capel a bit. I can also add that these players are paid to win basketball games as well, and they're continuing to lose. None of them, coaches or players, deserve the money they're getting.

The other thing that I’ve never understood about the Capel era- we have the exact same coaching staff now (Jason Capel, Brown, O’Toole) as we did when Jeff was hired in 2018. Narduzzi at least made some sweeping changes after 2017 and 2023.

If that’s him saying there’s nothing wrong with the staff, then the problem squarely falls onto him or the players he recruited.

The problem has always been squarely on Capel and the players. They're getting paid a lot of money and the results are the same mediocre crap.

We'll hear Capel say the blame rests on him and he'll say he needs to change some things. He said this after the UVA debacle, the worst loss ever at The Pete in terms of how the team played and expectations. Did anything change for UNC? Nope! Maybe a small, unnoticeable tweak that obviously didn't make a difference. It will be the same this time when we play SMU and probably lose that one too.

I'm frankly tired of hearing his talk. He's being paid to win basketball games, as are his players. Time to put up or shut up. Winning the rest of their games the rest of the year would be a start.
