Al Bundy once scored 5TD's for Polk High

Hah! I see what you did there. Ed O'Neill was a Youngstown kid who played at YSU and was signed by the Steelers, so that must mean that it was yet another recruiting miss by Pitt.

Point was.......................it was well in the past and had no bearing on his present or future life. Just food for thought.

I think a change of scenery would be best for both parties.. I am looking at coaching tenures in the world of college basketball like I do in the NFL, you can be a very good coach but after a period of time, things become stale.. That's what you see in the NFL, the same coaches seem to change jobs, musical chairs... I like Dixon but I just think a new coach would put a new burst of energy into a program that like I said, has become very stale..

I agree, Jamie Dixon's work in acting has no relevance to his future prospects as our coach. However, his head coaching achievements are certainly relevant when discussing whether or not he has the ability to bring us back out of our funk.

Pghfan, college administrations don't have the same mindset as professional front offices. If you pay attention, you will see that. the are plenty of coaches with worse results than Dixon who haven't been fired at their college. From a college hoops perspective, Dixon has not done anything close to being fired, and will likely be here longer than some goofballs here are saying (no way Pitt eats that contract, and what high quality coach at a nice gig comes to a school that fires a coach who makes the tourney 10 of 12 years?). You guys are living in fantasy land. Which is fine, everyone can dream. I just set my targets a bit higher than the firing of a college coach.

not once did I suggest firing him and eating his contract. (especially since we don't have an AD). And to be honest, once we hire a new AD, he wont make his first move firing Dixon, that would be a ridiculously bold move.. He'll play it safe, let it ride out for 2 years then bring in his own hire. . I merely stated that this long in a coach's tenure, things often get stale.. There is zero excitement with this program.. To think that he will suddenly become a great recruiter at Pitt, after a decade, is beyond wishful thinking.. We have seen the best of the Dixon era and now we are at the worst.. He can definitely get us back to being a tournament team but that's probably as much as we can honestly expect or hope for.

Oh ok, so when you say getting a new coach would be good for Pitt, you didn't mean fire him, we would just get a new one. Sorry I misunderstood.

Ha, yeah well, you got a point there.. let me try again, I don't want to fire him but if he leaves on his own, it would be a blessing in disguise.. How is that??

The Penguins got rid of Dan Bylsma, how'd that one work out?

Your point is taken but I think Disco Dan had to go. He was a system coach who wouldn't/couldn't adapt. His style worked fine in the reg season but eventually was horrible in the post season.

I think the mistake made was similar to Pitt getting rid of Wanny. Not enough foresight or planning on who either team ended up with. Pens still need upgraded in the top 6 (forwards obviously) but this guy is in over his head.
