Pitt was doomed when they scored a mere 6 points in the first quarter - but they did make a game of it in the second half, when they cut the lead to 4. They scored pretty consistently in the 3rd Q and in the first half of the 4th Q. They were probably tired out at the end since Coach doesn’t have many players he can use.

Pitt continues to shoot poorly. We shot 35% overall and 27% from three. Miami shot 41% and 35%…

On another note, Liatu King is having an excellent season with ND. She’s averaging 12 points and 11 rebounds. They beat UConn. I’m happy for Liatu, but I was thinking that if we still had Liatu to go with Faye, we’d have won today…

They got it down to four or five points with the ball numerous times in the second half of the fourth quarter (which, for the record, was a lot closer than I ever thought they would get). And couldn't score on any of them.

Would have been interesting to see what would have happened if they could have put some real game pressure on Miami. But alas, it was not to be.

Despite the loss, Khadija Faye (17.9 pts, 11.1 rebs) continued to shine for the Panthers, notching 21 points and a game-high 14 rebounds to mark her ACC-leading sixth double-double! If they could get a consistent number 2 player that could put up 12-15 points, Johnson (9.1 pts) and Elmore (7.4 pts) fall a little short.

The good news was this was the best bball I've seen from
our women this year. They worked the ball, got it inside, and
after the 1st Qtr actually stayed with Miami. Faye did pretty
well (will someone tell her not to take the ball back over
her head on FT's... basic mechanics. Some coach should have
worked on that yrs ago). The D was also pretty tough. Miami
has more talent, but we were right there with them. I never
expected that...hope it keeps up.

Once they got it through their heads that you can't force the ball into Faye on every possession, even when she is getting double and triple teamed, and started (mostly) only getting her the ball when she was more singled up on a defender the offense started flowing much, much better.

Let's hope that lesson carries over to games going forward.

Also, credit to Faye for a couple times later in the game when a double did come she made some nice passes to Elmore, one for a three and one for a layup.
