The Palmetto State is now officially bowl eligible.

The Medal of Honor Bowl in Charleston, announced Thursday that they will transition from an all-star format to a traditional NCAA bowl match-up between two Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) teams.

The game will be the first bowl game with Division I FBS members in the history of the state.

Previously, the game featured a selection of college senior players from across the country in an all-star game format. The transition to the traditional bowl format is made possible due to the July 10 resolution of the Confederate Flag by the South Carolina Legislature.

The game is scheduled to have conference tie-ins to two FBS conferences, that will be announced at a later date. Medal of Honor Bowl chairman Tommy McQueeny said that the optimal scenario would be to secure two teams that have strong local support and recognition.

Pending approval and NCAA certification for the Medal of Honor Bowl, the first game is tentatively set for December 18, 2016 at The Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Stadium.

There are too many bowls but Charleston is certainly a very good destination. Better than many.

Absolutely... One of my all-time favorite places. Beats the hell out of Detroit in January...

This sounds like a great bowl. Charlestown is an awesome place and the stadium seats 21,000 which will make a small crowd look great and provide a nice atmosphere.

And your fans flying the "southern cross" will fit right in.
