“Computer access crime” = hacking. Unauthorized access to someone else’s data. Different than a cybercrime like child porn.

Very unlikely is an understatement. University police doesn't investigate child porn. That's a federal offense. You wouldn't hear about this until he was in FBI custody if it was child porn.
