Once again, another Pitt Players being projected by another NFL team to become a Franchise Cornerstone.

This is why High School Recruits looking to become Players on Sunday in the NFL should come to Pitt.

Pitt's Larry Fitzgerald, Darrelle Revis, Shady McCoy, Aaron Donald and now TJ Clemmings with Tyler Boyd and James Conners on deck!

Pitt has done very well with the quality they have put into the NFL making far more dollars based on what they learned at Pitt by playing sooner learning the game to prepare far better in our region with the exception of Notre Dame, USC, and Ohio State.

WVU, Penn State, Rutgers, Maryland, Syracuse, and others have a tougher time doing that than Pitt! They may brag about attendance but few of them can equal Pitt with the special recruits has turned into better players in College Football and the NFL.

Article & Link:

25. Carolina Panthers -- Pittsburgh OT T.J. Clemmings: Dave Gettleman needs to get help for Cam Newton (no offense to Michael Oher and Jonathan Martin). The athletic upside of Clemmings and the veteran presence of those guys gives Carolina time to work the Pitt tackle into the mix as a franchise cornerstone.

CSR. ~ Respect your posts and have been a lurker/occasional poster for years.

Relative to the NFL quality of players theme you feature quite often, there's is no doubt Pitt has a strong history of great players in the NFL over the years, including 8 NFL Hall of Famers. Quite an achievement and something that makes me proud as well because most are from the Pittsburgh area.

My only comment is the reference that Penn State somehow lags Pitt in producing high calibre NFL players and putting players into the NFL period. I'm sure you aware of the number of NFL players on NFL rosters is always a good barometer and Penn State has been a program that has consistently had large numbers of NFL players in the league for the past 50 years. Even today there are over 30 players on NFL rosters, despite the obvious misfortunes of the program the past 4 years. Relative to Hall of Famers, Penn State has 6 NFL Hall of Famers, a number that is quite respectable and not that far off the pace of the programs you've mentioned. As another barometer, Pitt and Penn State have essentially the same number of players in the college Hall of Fame, which is another key indicator of high calibre players that both programs have produced over their storied histories.

Again, kudos to Pitt for the outstanding number of NFL Hall of Famers, but I do believe Penn State has had significant success by that same standard and consistently producing NFL players is certainly an even stronger area of success for the program.

It will be fun to watch the programs meet again soon (2016-2019). The rivalry was certainly one of the best in college football back in the 70s-80s.

Pro Football Hall of Fame
Penn State is one of 11 schools with five or more inductees in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Name Position NFL team(s) Year inducted
Jack Ham Linebacker Pittsburgh Steelers 1988
Franco Harris Running back Pittsburgh Steelers, Seattle Seahawks 1990
Mike Michalske Guard Green Bay Packers 1964
Lenny Moore Flanker/running back Baltimore Colts 1975
Mike Munchak Guard Houston Oilers 2001
Dave Robinson Linebacker Green Bay Packers 2013

It not somehow, Penn State is behind Pitt and one of those Penn state Players was Senior Committee Pick, in Dave Robinson. All of Pitt Players are without Senior Committee Picks!

I'm sure you aware of the number of NFL players on NFL rosters is always a good barometer and Penn State has been a program that has consistently had large numbers of NFL players in the league for the past 50 years.

No question Penn State has more players in the NFL and no question Penn state can be proud of that too, but Pitt still produces higher players at higher Quality and that is not an argument but a Fact!

Additionally, Penn State leads all College football Programs with the most First Round Busts under numerous neutral Sports Writers designations. Pitt has been selected right there in the Top Three on best talent since 1980 only behind USC & Miami under CBS Sports Rating of Talent In the NFL.

Finally, PITT has far more Players on the All Century 1900-1999 Teams than Penn State and only tied by Illinois and Notre Dame.

Even today there are over 30 players on NFL rosters, despite the obvious misfortunes of the program the past 4 years. Relative to Hall of Famers, Penn State has 6 NFL Hall of Famers, a number that is quite respectable and not that far off the pace of the programs you've mentioned.

I agree that is respectable but still behind Pitt as far as Quality and Penn State has more NFL First Round Busts than Pitt. In addition, Even today, Penn state may have more Players in the NFL but Pitt has more Quality and Higher rated players with more All Pros, All Rookie Selections and All Conference Selections than Penn State, and those are Factual Awards!

As another barometer, Pitt and Penn State have essentially the same number of players in the college Hall of Fame, which is another key indicator of high calibre players that both programs have produced over their storied histories.

No "Barometers" needed, Just Numbers that can be Linked, Pitt has more Selections in the College Football Hall of Fame when Coaches are included too!

Again, kudos to Pitt for the outstanding number of NFL Hall of Famers, but I do believe Penn State has had significant success by that same standard and consistently producing NFL players is certainly an even stronger area of success for the program.

I agree you can BELIEVE that but it that is just your "Belief" not a Fact! and since Penn State has far more NFL Busts than any College Football Program your other Belief that is Stronger is not a fact in light of Penn State Failures in the NFL!

It will be fun to watch the programs meet again soon (2016-2019). The rivalry was certainly one of the best in college football back in the 70s-80s.

Yes, it will be but it was Joe Paterno that ended the series and even Paterno's high success the last 46 years still did not pas Pitt in Hall of Fames and Quality in the NFL and joe produced many First round Busts!

I can put up my Facts on the Penn State Busts with Links, and then you can see your "Beliefs' are not equal to Pitt Factual Players Achievements in College Football Players, All Century Players, NCAA & NFL Records, and in PITT's more Higher Quality NFL Players with far more Awards without that Failure Penn state put in the NFL under the Paterno Era!

Those are Facts on Pitt and out do your beliefs on Penn State! Do you want me to post them, and then will you admit Pitt has outdone Penn State and I am counting on that Nittany Lion Pride for Honesty that I respect you so much for as a poster here on the Lair?

No question you should be proud of what Penn State has done with far more resources than Pitt, but Penn State is still chasing Pitt Players and Coaches on Hall of Fames, Records, and Number of Players with more awards than Penn State Players History.

Pitt has done far more with its players even having less of them than Penn State did with having more of them! Fact not Belief! I know that does not bother you because you show class here every time you post on the Lair. But it is one reason why Penn State CULTure Posters hate that about Pitt and BWI will take any posts that shows Pitt ahead??? At least, you can post here on the Lair what you believe and prove Penn State is ahead of Pitt, and Pitt Posters will salute Penn State for it, not ban it!

Penn State may one day pass Pitt but that day is not Today as far as Quality Players In College and Pros and no shame in recognizing Pitt has done better without the NFL Busts Penn State has produced!

Re: Hugh CFB HOF But Not NFL!

Hugh was selected to the College Football Hall Of Fame in 1996, but his career in the NFL was 1981-92 with a All Pros 1982-83 and All Rookie Team in 1982! Rickey Jackson Hugh's other Book End DE Teammate played 15 Years in the NFL and is in the NFL HOF!

Pitt's Hugh Green was also on All Century Team with Pitt and Illinois having the most Players for the Century. USC's John McKay Coach quoted "Hugh Green is the most productive player at his position I have ever seen in college"! In 1980, Green won the Walter Camp Award, the Maxwell Award, the Lombardi Award and was the Sporting News Player of the Year, the UPI Player of the Year and finished second in the Heisman Trophy balloting, losing to running back George Rogers of the University of South Carolina.Green's second-place finish in the voting was the best a defensive specialist had ever attained until 1997, when National Champion Michigan's Charles Woodson won the award.

Green was selected to the College Football Hall of Fame in 1996 and was named the fifth greatest college football player of All-Time by collegefootballnews.com.Hugh was named to the all-time All-American team compiled by The Sporting News in 1983. In 2007, Green was ranked #14 on ESPN's Top 25 Players In College Football History list. He was also named to Sports Illustrated's College Football All-Century team in 1999.

Wikipedia

In Addition, many other Publications has Hugh Green listed in Top 5 & 10 All Time in College football but his Pro Career was only 10 years. Later in his career Hugh suffered several injuries, including a car accident in the middle of the 1984 season for a fracture near the eye?

Re: GulfCoastLion.....!

What is amazing for Pitt fans and a tad disappointing for Penn State Fans. The Penn State fans love to point out having 100,000+ Attendance to every recruit that visits and that is a Top Ten Attendance and brings far bigger revenues for Penn State and that is a fact that favors Penn State over Pitt as well. I can easily compliment that about Penn State because it is true.

In addition, Penn State brings in over 3,000 Summer Camp Recruits from 8th to 12th Grades to Pitt's less than 300 recruits even if it is not that high in many years. Yet, Pitt with less far less Recruits still has produced Players with more NCAA records than Penn State.

Moreover, Penn State has be able to afford Rosters Sizes of 145 Players with many more 5th Year Role Players compared to Pitt's 105 Player Rosters. This alone accounts for putting more Players in the NFL, but more does mean better, and Pitt Players even now have out performed the many Penn State Players in the NFL in Awards, Pro Bowls, and NFL Records.

Additionally, Penn State has been able to afford funding all 85 NCAA Scholarships as well the larger Rosters and providing more benefits to Penn State Players then Pitt since 1960s. Pitt only funded its NCAA compliment of 85 Scholarships dating back to 2002 with the exceptions of the 1973-1989 Era. Still, Pitt Recruits that became Players has out produced the Quality of Play and Awards in the NFL even with far fewer players and has had far fewer NFL Busts than Penn State as well.

Also, almost every year for over 60 years, Penn State Recruiting Rankings are usually higher than Pitt Recruiting Rankings and that has resulted in more wins for Penn State, but not as many Higher Quality Players than Pitt has produced in the NFL for over those last 80 years.

Yet, Pitt's football program in spite of not having those well earned Penn State Resources and Advantages. The bottom line is in spite of all these Penn State Advantages Pitt has attracted far less Recruits but develop far more Quality Record Setting Pitt is still ahead of Penn State.

Even more relevant, this does not include the 1910 to 1939 Years that some Penn State CULTure Fans like to make fun of and ignore. These are Modern Era Numbers dating back to the Paterno Era and Pitt has shown to be better than Penn State in the NFL today with less but better Players!

I think it is because at Pitt Recruits can play right away and that teaches them skills far faster than riding the benches at Penn State. Now this may change soon since Coach James Franklin is not out recruiting Pitt and all big ten Schoosl except for Ohio State and far better than Joe Paterno ever did in his best years?

Any way one cuts it, in spite of all Pitt's problems on far less attendance, changing coaches, changing conferences, less Wins, less Bowls, far less Summer Camp Recruits, less Players in the NFL, less Scholarship Funded and Benefits, Smaller Rosters size, and Facilities Off Campus instead of near Penn State Players Private Apartments right next to Penn State Practice Facilities and even more advantages........

Pitt Players in the NFL Records, All Pro Awards, Rookie and Conference Awards, Quality of Play, and Hall of Fame are actually right there with Ohio State and Michigan more than Penn State is right now and with far less NFL First Round Busts as reported in many Football Sports Publications on the record.

This is why I question some of the intelligence of some recruits that want to play on Sunday and earn million, but then choose Penn State over Pitt and end up not performing on the higher level as Pitt Players have proven in the NFL for the last 5, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 years.

Pitt has proven it is actually the better College Football Program by develop more High Caliber Players that win more Pro Awards even with far less resources than Penn State.

There is no doubt about it and that is something few Penn State Fans like to acknowledge but cannot refute when using Facts on the record by how great Pitt produces Players that produce better in the NFL!

I can back it up right now if you want to compare todays and yesterdays Players as well.

I appreciate your presentation of great Penn State Players and more Penn State Players, but they are still chasing Pitt Players and Pitt Players have accomplished more in College and NFL than Penn State, and it is the Pitt Players that proved it by how they play in the NFL!

Pitt Facts beat out Penn State Beliefs as of today, and a Recruit has a better chance to play and learn Football than going to Penn State as the Pitt NFL Players have proven over the Penn State Players!

Nice post Captain

Let's get some of this talent to win more football games at PITT!

H2P

Re: GulfCoastLion.....!

and for the record.. the 107k thing is the biggest lie in the state.... They got 107k ONCE last year... and the rest weren't even close.

Re: JoeScaz, Pitt's Caliber Of Players Is Highly Respected!

The Penn State CULTure can ignore and just plain out hate anything Pitt ever accomplished in College Football, and has transferred that Hate to Football Programs in the Big Ten, such as Michigan, Ohio State, and Nebraska and no longer just "We Are"....Pitt Haters"!

The Big Ten Fans know this about Penn State as well, especially when they beat Penn State and Paterno, shaking them up in denting their self-esteem that reflects on a sad case of myopic envy translating as if that makes them less in life and especially College Football.

It that kind of behavior and beliefs that these Penn State CULTure Fans exhibit the sole reason they have far less respect today by such behavior and even more so than the Penn State Children Sex Scandal that actually has caused a diminish view on such Penn state CULTure Fans. Thank goodness these Penn State CULTure Dinosaurs are on the decline and Gerry Sandusky one of their own Player, Coach, Alumni and Professor Emeritus brought about it with the silence, secrecy, and cover-up that enabled the molestations and that is never going to be reversed by men and women of reasonable thought with values. Holding on to Vacated Values is worst than having Vacated Wins by any fair analysis.

On the other hand, GulfCoastLion is just one of many Penn State Fans that respect other achievements without fear it will bruise his confidence and has the character to recognize Pitt Accomplishments and is not threaten by them. GulfCoastLion also has the character to put up Penn State Accomplishments and Players knowing that does diminish him or Penn State either. The Liar is lucky to have GCL post on the Lair and he always gives and takes in any debate, and always shares his knowledge that make all of us to learn together.

No question Pitt and many Programs in the Big Ten will have their hands full in staying with Penn state's Franklin Top Recruiting Talent but competition is what it all about and the joy to watch it, and knowing both Universities have contributed far more to society playing, competing and sharing together far more accomplishments with Alumni than failures.

At the same time, there is absolutely no shame in any Pitt Poster recognizing Penn State University success, advantages, and accomplishments either, and having no fear that somehow makes Pitt fans less somehow?

When in fact, Pitt success and accomplishments are still greater without those Penn States advantages and unlike GCL, the Penn State Fans that cannot recognize that about Pitt or other Big Ten Programs and Alumni being a good competitor, actually reflects on them being less without having values that a good competitor even if he beats you, still is fun to pay, watch, enjoy and recognize win or lose!

This in my opinion, is why Penn State has a serious Inferiority Problem with all other Schools and Programs and not just Pitt, and still does not reflect on GCL or PSU Posters like him that enjoys such competition and shared values.
