Antigua to Kentucky

You realize that only an absolutely clinical insane person would’ve responded after I dunked on you with the jobs of the coaches we hired vs theirs right?

im shaq. You’re Chris Dudley
What don't you understand about Illinois hitting on mid-major lottery tickets? You understand that there's 50 programs just like Illinois that hire the same types of dudes.

And actually, you are right with the Shaq/Dudley comparison. We are an intellectual mismatch just like Yale-educated Dudley was with Shaq who said he had to take Biology at Southern because he couldn't pass it at LSU.

So either they hired better mid major lottery tickets (meaning they’re a better job) or the infrastructure at Illinois is more conducive to winning big (meaning they’re a better job). Another all time L for SMF

When is the tournament this month?

Ralph Willard was a wildly attractive mid-major lottery ticket and we landed him. Pitt and Illinois and schools like that are all fishing in the same pool. The jobs are basically the same. Pitt got lucky with Howland but struck out with Willard. Illinois got lucky with a few and struck out with Groce.

If you need any more schooling on this, I will be happy to oblige. Pitt is not nearly as bad a job as you think it is.

I guess until we can discuss Pitt signing Efton Reid, we have to settle for you two pounding on each other...

Bruce Pearl and Pitino don;t belong in the same sentence as coaches. Pearl is nothing more than a snake oil salesman. Pitino may be a snake period--but he's a legit HOF level coach, an all-time great one.
Pearl is a very good in game coach and an excellent motivator. Perhaps a little too much of a players coach, he tends to run a lax ship, He lets his team go through the motions somewhat in regular season, but if it's a game that means a lot to him or the fan base, his team's usually bring it.

He had an ungodly 84% winning percentage at Southern Indiana. He's also had really good success at both Tennessee & Auburn, which are historically known as mediocre to bad programs.

He's not Pitino level, but he's a very good coach.

That’s what the rumor was. But Illinois countered with 1 million per year for 4 years so it must’ve been slightly lower than that. Kentucky will obviously match.

pretty sure that’s more than our entire assistant salary pool.
Ok. I thought we could have gotten him for a million. Guess not. Probably would have taken 1.5 and we wouldn't have gone near that. That said, he may be the highest paid assistant in the country now. If Pitt could go out and spend 600K-800K, they could get a premier recruiter. To me, spending a few extra thousand on a guy who could possibly bring in a few guys to get us to the tournament would be money well spent

He is the highest paid assistant in the country when this is done.

And considering the whole assistant budget is between 900-1 mill they’re not gonna spend 2/3 that on 1 guy

Well they need to. If Heather can find $300 million for a volleyball arena and study hall, she should be able to find an extra $300K for a premier recruiter

My based-on-absolutely-nothing prediction is that Illinois is going to end up with a certain assistant coach/forward package, and a certain poster here will go fully nuclear.

I don't think Underwood is in a position where he needs to do that. Mitchell and step-dad will go to a Pitt-level program. If he goes without step-dad, he can name his school

I don’t think so. Tony B is virtually unhireable for a coach of Underwood’s stature. Look for him to make a run at Pastrana at Oklahoma State who is a stud and give Orlando’s money to keep Chin.
