Stull had a huge improvement leading into his senior year. I had a post on here, basically saying in depth how Stull didn't have any room to improve, this is as good as it gets, pitt should expect more blah blah and there was a pitt football article in the trib in August, and it had my post in the article.. Basically saying pitt fans are jack-asses and here is an example of how mean they are. LOL, figures, the one time someone listens to me and uses my post, I am dead wrong.
Swervin I forgot what your other handle is? I feel like you have some really good analysis of Peterman in this thread, particularly on this strengths - you nailed it. However in evaluating his weaknesses, I have to disagree somewhat with you.
I define a deep ball as one that is in the air for more than 35 yards. I saw at least a half dozen very nice deep balls from Peterman this year. For example, he had the ones to Boyd and Ford in the Louisville game, and if you remember back to the beginning of the season, his first pass was the 42 yarder to Ford. So I think you are overstating the problem a bit. He can improve a lot on the deep ball, but he is not exactly starting from scratch.
And I have to strongly disagree with you on your philosophy that deep balls can't improve late in a QB's career. That is exactly the thing Bill Stull improved the most going into his senior season. Same thing with Russell Wilson when he went to Wisconsin - could never throw the deep ball at NC, became known for it at UW.
And I think you totally nail it on Peterman holding onto the ball too long. That often comes with confidence, and confidence often comes to 2nd year starting senior QB's.
So I have a brighter outlook on Peterman than many here. I think most of the tools are there, and while he is far from a finished product, or a lock to be All-ACC next year, it would not surprise me at all if he had a huge breakout year.
But at worst, I think Peterman is a bit above average next year, assuming we bring in a solid OC.
