We could definitely use another 3 point threat. Hopefully he gets healthy and gains his confidence.

I hope also he does. As of now he's played part time in 4 games. He's made
1 FG. and no 3 pt'rs at this point. He's a frosh, and is way behind given the
games he's missed.

He is a freshman. That said, we needed him at Louisville and will need him throughout the ACC schedule. He is a much better athlete and even if he is not hitting shots can match up with teams like Louisville with his length and athleticism. It was painfully clear that Murphy was overwhelmed athletically at Louisville. Murph will have his spots but against big strong teams like the Ville just aint the place for him.

I've been wondering about the redshirt option here with drum. Dixon certainly would have redshirted. I don't think Capel has that mindset but we will see.

Yeah I don’t think Capel will be worried about redshirting him. Guessing he thinks he will be able to keep bringing in higher rated kids the longer he’s here, so no sense in saving him

I don't think he will RS either but would like if someone could answer what the rule is. I believe they cant play in 30% of the team's games but does that mean they cannot play past a certain point in the season which we have already passed?

Basketball redshirt rules did not change when football redshirt rule did last summer. As you know, in football, a player can participate in as many as four games in a season and still be redshirt. That is not the case in basketball.

In basketball, to be a non-medical redshirt, a player can not participate in any games at all. A medical redshirt is available, though, for a player who participates in 30 percent or less of a team’s games during the year and all those games have to come in the first half of the season

So, this would mean that if he plays in game #16 (@ Miami) or later, he would be ineligible for a RS I take it.

I think you have to be careful redshirting players now since everyone grad transfers but you also have to take into consideration how much PT that player will get and if you think he will help you win any games. If the player wont get a ton of PT and will most likely not help the team win more games, then its probably best to RS the player even if they grad transfer after their RS JR year.
