defense was played both by Georgetown and by Duke in their game today due to the new rules emphasis causing players to get in foul trouble? GT used what looked like a 2-3 and Duke appeared to be playing a 1-3-1. Georgetown's wasn't as effective due to Duke's better 3 point shooting.

Jim Boeheim "gathering facts". I remember a few of the usual suspects on here siding with JB and mocking JD when JB said only dumb coaches would move to zone because of the new rules, and JD said a lot of coaches would. Seems th mocking should have been reserved for the king of zone. I suspect JB is mostly upset that with more teams practicing zone, suddenly, his zone doesn't look as daunting.

Duke was indeed playing a 1-3-1. When they were playing it late in the game when I was watching they had 6-9 Brandon Ingram at the top of the zone. That was a lot of length to have in that spot. When I was watching it was giving Georgetown fits.

More zone played in Miami vs Butler game. Butler 2nd half zone helped Butler come from way back to -4 before Miami put it away in last few minutes.

Jamie Dixon basically said with all the new rules the zone is pretty much bound to happen across college basketball. Pitt will likely use a lot more of it this year, they switched to it against Detroit and may not have had the late second half success that game without it. If this becomes the case in NCAA, very odd just how drastically different the game will continue to be from the NBA. I'm probably one of the few that likes the NBA, but a game I have no rooting interest in I'd rather watch college hoops. Much more pure form of basketball in the sense of coaching being such an impact and players having to execute as opposed to just leaning on their freakishly good athletic skills.
