We will not beat WF. We aren't winning because most of the teams in the ACC have playmakers, and we don't. We have young, inexperienced players, one or two of whom will develop into playmakers, but who are best-suited right now to playing specific roles. ... Next year, that will change. Ellison and Luther will help tremendously, if we don't screw things up and lose them. Luther will provide an opportunity to get the ball inside when the shot clock is winding down, and Ellison can create his own shot from the perimeter, in the mid-range, and by attacking the rim. I believe Kingsby can create as well (better than either Carr or Milligan, plus he shoots 40%+ from 3) ...
Among WF's strengths is its interior, and we have not performed well against that type of team (if the season ended today, Doral Moore, their 6'11" center would set the all-time ACC record for shooting percentage at 70.6%; he's also averaging 10 rpg). Wake has won 3 of its last 6 and in those three losses, they've lost by a combined total of 22 to Miami, Clemson, and 'Cuse. Meanwhile, they've beaten FlaState, NC State, and GaTech (by nearly 20). This is NOT a good matchup for us. Might we win? Sure. That's possible for every team every night. But it will take a 50%+ 3-point shooting night by our boys, an abysmal shooting night by Wake (their two leading scorers are both shooting 37%+ from 3), and Moore suddenly forgetting how to score around the basket. If I'm Danny Manning, my game plan is for Doral Moore to score AT LEAST 20 points tonight. We have no answer for that, even if our offense produces at the level it did against Florida State.
