I just realized that I got bumped from Gold 1 to Red 5A. Thought I was safe when I didn't receive a call like a bunch of folks on here did. I never even heard of this lot. Is anyone else here in it?
Thanks.

You're probably not going to be happy...Red 5A is a parking garage.
I don't believe they allow any open fires or grilling but I could be wrong.

Hail to Pitt

are you sure about that? I dont' think so, it's definitely a lot but I am not sure if it includes the lot AND the garage. If so, go early and get the lot.. You can definitely grill in the lots..

I believe that Red 5A is the open space next to the garage. The garage is Red 5, aka Luke Skywalker.

Yes....I could be wrong, I know it includes the parking garage now. I was moved there a few years ago from Gold lot 4 when it first opened and I believe it was garage only then ...it might have expanded to an open lot or I was still in shock I didn't realize or see it and requested an immediate move to Red7A a surface lot.

What is going to drive a lot of people insane, and rightfully so, is when you walk into the game, 5 minutes before kickoff, and Gold1A is still 75% empty..

Gotta have spaces for all of those luxury seat holders that Pitt has zero control over.

yeah I know and I get it.. Still sucks when people who would have loved to have properly utilized those spots for tailgating got booted for people that show up late and leave early.. good to have money, so I've been told..

They are mostly people who do not show up at all, and I'm guessing plenty of them Steeler fans who have luxury seating and parking spaces.

How does the Steeler's luxury seat holders have any bearing on where a PITT fans park? If the Gold lot is empty, its PITT fans that are not showing up.

I remember that lot being quiet. The new parking garage construction in lot 1 is the issue.

I was confused by this as well. steeler fans with luxury seating don't own the space in Gold1a, at least not on non-steeler home games.. These spots im assuming are given to the highest donors, obviously not many tailgaters. don't rich people drink ic light beers in parking lots for 5 hours before kickoff?

Yes, plenty of Pitt donors who don't go to the games, but there aren't THAT many big donors. The Steelers luxury suits have a portion of their revenue go to Pitt, so I am assuming that they get tickets and parking passes for Pitt games as well. That adds to the empty spaces.

You only get two tickets per suite. Not that big of an impact in that lot.

I think some suites give more than 2 parking passes, but lets say that those are all premium parking spots, and that there are about 130 suites. That means 260 spaces (probably more because some suites give 4 parking passes), most of which I bet are not used for Pitt games.

The parking situation isn't good. I received one of those bad news calls regarding my parking. They were moving me so far away to a lot which has to be in a different zipcode than the stadium. They gave me no options at all except to cancel parking, which I did. Hopefully I can find a lot in the Strip or Station Square that allows grilling and tailgating... any suggestions?

station square lots say no grilling but they don't enforce it.. There are a ton of lots over past the convention center in the strip.. No clue who parks there during the fall though. One is for the museum, not sure about the other one past the VA bridge.. Plus, that's a hell of a walk to the game..

Best bet is to grill out in station square and if anyone gives you grief, act like you don't speak English and smile and nod at them, always smile and nod, it confuses people....

May I suggest using the Villanova game as an opportunity to go and meet the ticket takers at the parking lot you prefer. Being "nice" to them can work wonders when it comes to parking issues. Fortunately, I have not had to do this as of yet. My parking pass has remained in the same location since we've been at Heinz Field. Over the years, I have gotten to know the ticket people at our lot. The one told me a couple of years ago that Pitt (they denied it by the way when I called them) oversells each of the lots since they always assume some people will not show up for a given game. Usually not a problem for any one unless there is a big game such as penn state where most people will attend. Also, I know of friends who park in the same lot as I do who don't even have a parking pass. They just know one of the people taking the ticket stubs at the lots.

Red lot 5 is the parking garage. Red lot 5A is a surface lot. It is actually a nice place to tailgate. We have been in this lot for the last couple of years.
