Apparently SoufOaklin4life should start

JWF can't defend him and if that's true most of the ACC can't defend him either. Kid is lethal. Put me in coach!
As noted frame seemed like a good dude
He shot a very good 40.9% from 3 last year

And he was also arguably our 3rd or 4th best player

his defensive lapses loss as many games - wake comes to mind - as his shooting won

I’ll say it again - seemed like a good dude
But his leadership and shooting won 5 acc games over 2 seasons combined

JWF was a good player but losing him is no excuse for the regression of this team. Truth be told, Ryan Murphy is not far off from what JWF was and the sophomores were supposed to improve and it was up to Capel to improve the team in other ways.

Having less 1 dimensional players is how we’ll improve and win more

Frame didn’t improve the teams he was on- he’s certainly not a missing piece to this squad

Its ok to have a JWF or a Murphy as your 5th option or a bench player but if you need them to score 20 for you to win, you're in trouble. McGowens has been ok. He hasn't improved but hasn't gotten worse. Johnson and Toney regressing along with no inside presence are what's wrong with this team.

Souf couldn’t even get run at Trees Hall. No one wanted to pick up a guy who looked like he would need Coronary Bypass after running for 2 minutes.
Souf could do okay.

still gave a decent handle .
Used to play a game with smaller guys , who would argue my height made it unfair - that I would only shoot 3s and midrange outside of the paint .

Or losing to Montana and navy
With the addition of Murphy and Champaigne along with XJ and Trey AND JWF?? No brainer we beat Nicholls State and a much better chance of beating West Virginia. And I truly believe with him on the roster this season we might be a sleeper NCAA tournament team and definitely NIT bound. He would be picking up the slack when XJ or Trey struggle. We are much better team this year with JWF, not sure why you don't see that.

We would be better because he's better than Murphy, but only slightly. If you want this team to be improved greatly over last year, hope that the sophomores and Brown play much much better.

Albany says what ?

Souf just being Souf. Frame would make this team better. Period. Capel would no doubt dust off a seat for him if given the opportunity.

He doesn’t so it’s a stupid premise

if someone wants to pine for a player who isn’t eligible - let’s aim higher

Your attempt to marginalize his performance is astounding. Push back results in your go to "quit pining" replies.

No one is pining for Frame. What I am pining for is another player on this team to be as productive as him. Perhaps you should acquaint yourself with his 2018 stats; 13 ppg (2nd highest), 40% from behind the arc, 5 rebounds (2nd highest), second lowest turnovers, 77% free throw percentage (highest). Yeah, this team has no need for such a one dimensional player.

5 wins in conference over 2 seasons

Yes im sorry his impact wasn’t on the win column often enough.

Ryan Murphy says hi. They are close to the same player. I would give a slight edge to JWF.

a) How hasn't Mcgowens gotten better?

2018: 11.5 pts - 3.2 rebs - 1.7 assists - 41.7% FG - 32.7% 3PT

2019: 16pts - 6rebs - 3 assists - 45% FG - 41% 3PT

b) X hasn't regressed. He has started slow. He's not going to shoot 35% from the field all year. His last three games assists have been 7-5-9. He's fine.

c) Toney - I don't have words nor an argument for this guy. Upsetting to say the least.

Thanks! I was looking up his stats from this year and last, and was just about
ready to post. I found the same info as you. ALL his important stats showed improvement (FT% stayed the same 76%...which is a good %).
Not looking at stats, what I see is;
1...... less crazy driving into the lane
2...... a much smoother looking stroke on his outside shot (that
matches that with his BIG % increase on his threes).

It's early, and it'll be interesting to see if he can keep the shooting %'s
as high as they are now, but for SMF to say McGowens " hasn't
improved" so far this year ....well, typical.

It's too early to make any definitive statements, but Ryan Murphy needs to play a lot better than he has so far to be close to the same player that Wilson-Frame was last year.

Agree.
He's basically a one dimensional player in that his strength is
his shooting. I like the way he hustles, goes after loose balls, and
even gets an occasional rebound. I'm glad we have him but,
and it's a big BUT...when he goes cold like he's done recently
there's no other part of his game that really makes up for what
he is supposed to do for us...which is shoot.
Compare this to Toney for instance. Toney can't shoot to save
his ass....BUT he can rebound, fight inside, play tough D, and
basically add to what we're trying to do. In some ways he's more
of an inside presence than our big (Brown) ...just look at the
rebound stats of each.

Yes Murphy hustles and makes some good passes as he had 2 against the zone tonight. But if his J is off he is very one dimensional for the most part. Unlike JWF Murphy needs help getting open looks...so here is a crazy idea, maybe run some plays for him. If his J (like it will be in some games) is off then sit him that game.

Toney can’t shoot and misses tons of shots close to the hoop but he has other qualities that can help. As stated he hustles, rebounds, can guard multiple positions etc.

We've played six games and he's been really bad in two of them. That's not a good percentage, but like I said it's way too early to make too much of it.

But if he's going to shoot 2-15 on threes like he has over the last three games, he can't be playing over 30 minutes a game. He just doesn't do anything else well enough to make up for that kind of shooting.

Frame was terrible early on into his senior season many of you seem to have forgot that point. He really came into his own as the season closed out.

Actually that isn't true, I checked stats he was ok. It looked different watching him. He was decently consistent but looked inconsistent watching the games.

Good suggestion about running plays for him, especially against.a
man to man D. Against a zone, there's things you can do with him
simply by where you place him. You could start him on the strongside
wing, bring the ball to that side and send him through (cutter) to the
weakside...ball reversal back through the point. or off a pass from
the post will probably get him a shot.. That's as basic as it gets.
There's also numerous other things to do to get him open. Go ahead
and watch Trey in this offense against a zone. Other than catching a
pass on the wing, 25 feet from the hoop, he basically has no other
option than to pass it back to the point. Same as last year, and as
we know he struggled against zones. It's the offensive scheme that's
the problem.

The problem is that Murphy pretty much stands in one place and hopes others create space for him .

he needs to be in constant motion

Once again, lack of offensive scheme. As you said, "he needs to be in
motion." Actually they all need to be in varying degrees of motion along
with ball movement. If he just stands there, and btw, he's not the only
one.....then the zone can just stay stationary and keep him and the
ball 25 feet from the hoop. It's simple, ya gotta make the zone move,
and force it to adjust to what you're doing. That's when the gaps open
up, and that's when you can take advantage.
